Welcome to the August Dream Factory News!!
Having been a teacher for 11 years, summer is always a time to relax, relook and reinvest in my personal process and the process of creating the Dream Factory Community.
With my son as a college sophomore in the fall, it is time to look at what my needs are and the dreams that I have put aside in favor of family and home life. It is a time to reevaluate the things I do and why I do them.
Like the women who always cuts off the ends of the ham, who finds out that the only reason that her mother and grandmother did it, was that the pan was too small; it is time to assess the reasons behind the actions.
In line with this new thinking---there are some great new events and programs in the Dream Factory. Hope you find something that sparks your thinking and process.
Best,
Nancy Cantor

Framingham Dream Factory Luncheon
Featured Speaker
Jo Crawford
Web of Benefit
"Everyone Deserves to Live Their Dream!" |
Join us at the Dream Factory Community Luncheon on August 18th at the Bella Costa Ristorante in Framingham, for thought-provoking insight on What Makes us Feel Worthy by Jo Crawford, Founder and Executive Director of Web of Benefit .
Jo's Story
Last month Victoria told us that she knew what her passion was when she was just 15 years old. For me, it took 40 years longer to define my dream and to believe that I actually deserved it. It took three more years to create it. I now know that I was not ready and did not have the skills that I needed until I was 55 years old, and my own lack of self-worth played huge part in my delayed development.
I am the in the first class of baby boomers, and growing up in the 1950's was a very different experience than it was even 30 years ago. As an upper class white teenager living on the Main Line outside Philadelphia, my life should have been a happy one. I had never heard the words domestic violence. I do not know if it was even a phrase used in conversation at that time. If it was, it was whispered behind closed doors. Alcoholism was another word not spoken in my home because excessive drinking was socially acceptable and almost required in my family. I was taught from a very early age that my needs were not important in the family hierarchy and that I was not to ask for anything. Fear was a major part of my youth.
Children learn survival skills quickly, but those skills do not necessarily serve us as adults. I did not learn to communicate feelings or verbalize my wants and needs. The concept that I deserved to have my dreams come true was not even a thought. Dreaming is not possible when safety is the priority. Because alcoholism and domestic violence are intergenerational, I consider myself very lucky that this story has a happy ending. For me, the determination to learn from my mistakes and to find the larger meaning of my childhood made the difference. I was able to make choices along the way that brought me here today.
All this took a long time and led me down a winding road. Web of Benefit is my dream and a way to honor my mother even though our relationship was not an easy one.
Creating my dream is a way of continuing my own healing as well as helping amazing women to define and realize their own dreams. I have learned that we all have the same hopes and fears, and that most of us have self worth issues and trouble asking for what we need. I also know that every one of us deserves the chance to create the life of our dreams, not because of who we are, what we do or where we came from. We deserve our dreams because we walk on this planet and are children of God. I am also proof that you are never too old to dream. Walt Disney said: "If you can dream it, you can do it", and it is never too late!

Tipi, Teepee, Tepee
by Nancy Cantor | | |

No matter how you spell it, tipis are amazing structures that can lead to community gatherings. I used to have a tipi which I put up on a friend's land, but because of the distance, never really used it.
Now that I have my own land, right in my own backyard, I have decided to put up a tipi. Right now, I have the canvas tipi, the liner and the poles. The poles need to be sanded and stained and then I can put it up and enjoy it.
Are you interested in playing a part? I am looking for like-minded folk who want to be part of this tipi-raising activity. Just e-mail me and I can include you in the activities to come.
