The Art of Making Changes
Carrie Johnson

  • Have you ever felt down on your luck?
  • Do you have any challenges in your life or business?
  • Do you need some inspiration and courage?

Then Carrie H. Johnson wrote, "From the Pits to the Palace: One Woman's Journey to Self Realization through Entrepreneurship," just for you!

She says, "Yes, that's the name of my book. I put my heart and soul into my book and it tells a great story about my journey from welfare to multimillion dollar business owner. My story is undeniable confirmation that whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right! It's about finding your own magnificence."

If you would like a taste of your own magnificence, join Carrie and the Dream Factory Community for a Conference to remember.

She will be the keynote speaker, on June 11th, 7:30pm and lead a workshop on June 12th called, "Personal Presence: What is it? Who's got it? Why should I care? How do I get some?"

On Thursday night, June 11th, there will be a pre- dinner party including a wine-tasting by Marianne Haldoupis of The Inspired Grape, paired with appetizers provided by Tracy Harrison of Purpose, LLC.

If that isn't enough, after the dinner masseuses, Buffy Cave and Cindy Lennihan, and Angel therapist, Pat Mazzola will be giving mini- sessions while Beatriz Sanchez and Tess Roberts will offer Spa Treatments for your face or feet that will leave you relaxed and refreshed.

When you are feeling so relaxed, why not just go upstairs and go to sleep? Our conference facility can accommodate up to 28 lucky women who will turn this conference into a retreat. Stay and play--more wine, a little massage, good friends, it doesn't get any better.

But then it does!!! The next morning, do yoga with Judy Giovangelo, or take a walk in the woods with Penny Dickson. (yes, there are hiking trails.) Have a leisurely continental breakfast, inside or out, as you prepare for a day of change.

Choose from several workshops: Personal Presence with Carrie, Our Work in the World; an exploration of creating non-profits with Joonu Coste and Carol Madsen, Discovering Your Best Self with Penny Dickson and Tracy Harrison, Greening Up! with Susan Tordella and "The Power of You; A Financial Guide For Women Of All Ages," with Donna Lynch and Leah Alvanos.

Throughout the conference, we will have a silent auction with the proceeds going to our partners, Alliance Exchange and Blackstone Valley WomanAid. Help fund scholarships for kids in the Ecuadorian rainforest or economic support for families in Blackstone Valley.

Please join us to make important changes in your life, your work and your world, while you help others do the same. Register for our annual conference, "Be the Change You Can Believe In."

Take a Break

Have you ever been to that point where the stress of daily life gets to you, and you feel tired and overwhelmed? Have you ever felt that doing one more chore or running one more errand is more than you can handle?

Well, maybe you ought to listen to your own body and mind telling you "it is time to take a break."

How do you do that? Do something out of the ordinary.

  • Ride your bike
  • Go out in the sunshine
  • Do some gardening
  • Plan something with your spouse and /or kids
  • Take a nap
  • Walk the dog
  • Create an Accomplishment/Gratitude Journal
  • Do an exercise class/dance
  • Meditate/do yoga
  • Call a friend

These are just a few. Make your own list and intersperse throughout your day. Remember, as Stephen Covey says,"put the big rocks in first."

What are your big rocks?

I know I am working on creating my vacations this summer and planning my work around them. It is important to get the down time you need so you can be fully present in all aspects of your life. .

Being a CDO: Chief Dream Officer means taking on your life, your work and your world. Make sure you take care of all three.

Stuck on Ready

In a recent CDO Training, one of the participants talked about being stuck on ready. What does that mean? how does that happen?

I hear people say that if they knew what they wanted they would pursue it or if they knew what to do they would do it. So the culprit seems to be uncertainty.

So how do we get clear in the process of creating our lives? i really do think it takes a community and a process to move people along their higher path. There are lots of twists and turns---and we need others and support to take the most productive road.

Are you stuck on ready in any aspect of your life? Come join us for the whole conference and make the changes you have only dreamt about, or take a break at the conference dinner or the overnight, or join us for the Women in Business Luncheon.

Stuck on Ready?

It takes action to be stuck no more.

Carol Madsen is a Founding Director and President of AlliancExchange, a 501(c)3 nonprofit which provides scholarships so rainforest children in Ecuador can attend high school. Carol has had an extensive career in both the private and public sectors and has had her own consulting firm for over 20 years.

She and a group of women founded AlliancExchange in 2003 and have helped organizations and communities throughout Ecuador with start-up funds, grants for revolving loans, and educational support. In the past 2 years they have send 17 young people to secondary school with the help of other nonprofits, individual donors and fundraising events. Carol is thankful that AlliancExchange's share of the proceeds from the Conference's Silent Auction will go directly to help the young people of Ecuador - future caretakers of the rainforest and their culture. (Click Veronica's picture for more info on AlliancExchange)

Blackstone Valley Womenaid, Inc. is an all- volunteer non-profit organization of dedicated women raising private funds - "charitable gap funding" - for short term need-based financial assistance for families living in the 11 Blackstone Valley communities who do not qualify for other funding sources with the goal of keeping them healthy and in their homes.

Founder Joonu Coste says, " We work with verifiers from social service agencies, charities, schools, churches, etc, to identify and validate requests for assistance.

All requests and donations are made anonymously and the average turn around time is 48 hours. Once a request has been approved by the board, the money is paid directly to the vendor or collecting agent. We approve one request per family per year, up to $500." (for more information go to QuickLinks)

All proceeds from our Conference Silent Auction will go to Blackstone Valley WomenAid and AlliancExchange.

In addition, Carol and Joonu will be teaming up to lead a Workshop on Friday about how to take your "passion to make a difference" and turn it into a non-profit organization.
