Help Stamp Out Hunger on May 12
| |
Saturday, May 12, 2012 marks the 20th anniversary of the Stamp Out Hunger national food drive, and United Way of Erie County is partnering with Sandusky and Huron postal carriers in order to assist needy families in the community. When you leave a donation of non-perishable food items in a bag by your mailbox, your letter carrier will collect and deliver it to a local food bank.
While the drive has been a success each year, the needs are particularly sad for 2012. One out of every six people are at risk for hunger in Erie County. 77 percent of households are food insecure, meaning they do not always know where they will find their next meal, and 44 percent of households have said they had to choose between paying for rent or a mortgage and food.
Your donation can make a big difference, so please donate non-perishable food items for your letter carrier to collect on May 12 and help Stamp Out Hunger! For more information on how you can help, please contact the office of United Way of Erie County at 419-625-4672 or by e-mail at uwec@bex.net

Go Sailing with Harbor North and Benefit United Way of Erie County
| |
On Saturday, June 2 and Sunday, June 3, the United Way of Erie County will be partnering with Harbor North in Huron to host the "Discover Sailing!" event to promote the sport of sailing and also benefit the United Way.
Between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM on both days, Harbor North will be sponsoring sailboat rides, demonstrations, and a number of other activities while also providing free food and refreshments. The goal of this event is to encourage people to learn more about sailing and become involved in the sport. Proceeds from the sailboat rides (suggested donation is $10 per person) will help benefit the United Way of Erie County. All "Discover Sailing!" participants will also be entered into a drawing for a free two-day US SAILING class for one person at Harbor North.
Harbor North took just over 300 people out sailing during last year's "Discover Sailing!" weekend. For more information on this year's "Discover Sailing!" event, call Harbor North at 419-433-6010 or 1-800-451-SAIL(7245) or contact the office of United Way of Erie County by phone at 419-625-4672 or by e-mail at uwec@bex.net
