UW Kids
Adult Guardianship Program of Catholic Charities

"John" was living in his independent apartment when it became apparent that he was having difficulty in activities of daily living and his dementia was increasing. His guardian through Catholic Charities worked in collaboration with Serving Our Seniors to get him an extensive evaluation to determine his cognitive functioning. This evaluation determined his cognitive function was deeply impaired. Catholic Charities worked with professionals to determine the appropriate placement for "John". As a result the team decided it was best for him to reside in a 24 hour care facility.

Goodwill

The staff of Goodwill recently began working with "Bob", teaching him general work ethics such as showing up for work on time, following instructions, proper interactions with co-workers and supervisors, etc. After his first week of work, the staff discovered that "Bob" did not have any food to eat, so the staff worked with several agencies to provide food for him. Transportation was also an issue, so Goodwill provided a bike for him to use. After 8 weeks of training, the staff felt "Bob" was ready for a job in the community. The job developer worked out a plan with the local CiCi's restaurant for a trial work period where Goodwill would pay his wages for a few weeks. If it worked out, the restaurant would hire him. "Bob" did a great job, has been hired and is working on his own.

 Exchange Program of Kinship
A family struggling with domestic violence with an active protection order, was referred to Kinship so that they could exchange their child without having contact with one another.  The mother felt safest having the exchanges take place at Kinship.  After several months of successful exchanges, the family transitioned to exchanging their daughter on their own and no longer need Kinship's services.
The Volunteer Center

On September 11, 2011, The Volunteer Center was able to recruit 900 volunteers for the REV3 Triathlon. Many of the volunteers mobilized for this event were volunteering in the name of a not-for-profit. These not-for-profits were able to receive a donation of $15.00 per volunteer per shift they worked. This allowed the not-for-profits to raise some money while providing the many athletes visiting our area a quality experience.
