UNIFORM EXCHANGE 2012

The next Uniform Exchange and Sale will be held just prior to  the 2012-2013 school year.  The exact date is still to be determined.  This event offers families the opportunity to exchange dress code clothing in good condition that children no longer wear or that do not fit for needed clothing.  Items are exchanged at a rate of 2:1; for every 2 items donated, 1 item may be selected for free.  Clothing is also sold at $2 per item.  Families who donate clothing are allowed into the Exchange 30 minutes early so as to have a first chance to select exchanges.  Clothing is now being accepted for the Exchange.  A list of families who donate and amount to be credited is maintained.  Credit  carries over for one year so families who had credit last year may still select clothing this year.

Please contact Colette Lottor, 303-678-1642, or rejcbl@msn.com  for more information.

THE MONTH OF MAY

Have you ever noticed that no other month in our calendar starts on the same day of the week as the month of May? The month of June is also similar in this pattern. No other month ends on the same day of the week as the month of May either.

Memorial Day or Decoration Day is observed, in most states of the United States, the last Monday in May. It is a legal holiday and is observed in memory of those who died while serving the United States in war. The graves of the war heroes are decorated with flowers.

It was first observed in 1866.

Mother's Day was first observed in 1908. It was designated by Presidential proclamation, and was recognized officially by Congress and the President in 1914. It is celebrated in honor of Mothers on the second Sunday of May.

Armed Forces Day is celebrated the third Saturday of May.

The United States honors the men and women of the military services.

The Armed Forces Day Celebration combined the Army, Navy, and the Air Force in 1950.

The Kentucky Derby takes place on the first Saturday in May at Churchill Downs, Louisville, Kentucky. It is the most famous horse race in the United States.

Cinco De Mayo, on May 5th. It is the anniversary of the Mexican victory over the French at Puebla in 1862. It is a national holiday in Mexico.
