February 16 - February 29

Objective:

The goal of this two-week campaign is to increase student...

    a. ...awareness, curiosity and develop a deeper understanding of the Twin Peaks mission

    b. ...ideas in order to develop action(s) that will assist in putting our mission into practice.

Grades K-5 Students

        1) Students memorize TPCA's mission statement and have this confirmed (signed coupon)

by a trusted adult (parent, teacher, grandparent, friend, principal, office staff member, playground monitor, etc.)

2) Students name on coupon is put into a drawing for a prize. Student recites/enters the mission statement coupon as many times as possible, as long as a different

adult signs the coupon each time.

         3) Collection point (Jar) will be the WEST CAMPUS Office. K-2, 3-5, Grade 6.

Grades 6-8 & High School Students

1. Students are encouraged to submit suggestions for what action(s) Middle School or High School can take to help make the mission statement a reality - e.g. Students may have ideas about how they can help create an encouraging environment or discuss how they can demonstrate the virtues/character traits the school wants student to model,

2.Students can enter as many times as they wish as long as the suggestion is different and acceptable each time.

3. Collection point, (Jar), will be in the EAST CAMPUS Office for HS.

Our mission, every day, all day.....

Twin Peaks Charter Academy provides students with the foundations of virtue and character, building cultural literacy through a rigorous, content-rich curriculum in an encouraging environment.

CSAP Changing to TCAP across the State & Twin Peaks

(Transitional Colorado Assessment Program)

It doesn't seem possible that the TCAP (known formerly as the CSAP) is right around the corner! As we at Twin Peaks prepare for this round of testing, parents can do the same. Please take note of the TCAP testing schedule when planning vacations, doctor's appointments, or other elective absences of any kind. Please plan around test days as all students in Grade 3 - 10 will be tested in the areas of Reading, Writing, Math and Science (5th, 8th, 10th). Grade 3 Schedule is listed below as students in Grade 3 are always assessed first, for reading.

Remaining test days for other grades will be March 12 - March 21. Make up days will be provided but again, these are not optimal testing conditions for students to perform at their best.
There are many ways to support your student for the events of test days: providing a HEALTHY breakfast on testing days, ensuring your students have a full night of sleep, and reminding them of the importance of the test. With your support our students will demonstrate their true potential.

NEW GOAL IN READING CHALLENGE

1,000,000 Minutes Reading Challenge Finishes on

 February 24!

We are in the final four days of the Reading Challenge. Because students have read

1.4 million minutes as of last week.

Mr. Buchman has challenged them to reach a

new goal of 1,500,000 minutes K-6 before February 24.

Mr. Finn and Mrs. Feeney have volunteered to dress up if we meet the higher goal. Don't forget that every student who reads 1,800 minutes will be eligible for the drawing for a Kindle or a Leapster Explorer at the end of the Reading Challenge.

Thank you parents for all your support.

Teens can apply for summer jobs with Boulder County Youth Corps
Boulder County residents ages 14-17 can now apply for summer jobs with the Youth Corps.
Girls especially are encouraged to apply. Applications are available online and at counseling
offices in schools. The deadline to submit an application is Friday, March 30.

The Youth Corps offers one of the best first job opportunities available in Boulder County.

Up to 160 teenagers will be hired to work 30 hours a week, Monday through Thursday, from

June 18 to August 8 on a variety of community service projects.

Projects will include such activities as thinning forests, building trails, constructing fences and

doing historic preservation and landscaping. Corps members will earn a starting hourly wage

of $7.64, with the possibility of earning a $100 bonus at the end of the program based on merit

and strong attendance. Teens who have worked for the Corps in past years can earn up to

$8.14 an hour.

"Youth Corps was an awesome opportunity for me to learn new things about our environment and myself" one of last summer`s Corps members said of the experience.

For more information or to download an application, visit www.BoulderCounty.org/YouthCorps.

Also, since we maintain separate accounts for high school, we ask that you bring your payment (check or exact cash) to the high school office east campus.
You are also welcome to pay online with your Debit or Credict card through Revtrak
