"Hey students & parents", "We Love our School"

February 16 - February 29

Objective:

The goal of this two-week campaign is to increase student...

    a. ...awareness, curiosity and develop a deeper understanding the Twin Peaks mission

    b. ...ideas in order to develop action(s) that will assist in putting our mission into practice.

Grades K-5 Students

        1) Students memorize TPCA's mission statement and have this confirmed (signed coupon)

by a trusted adult (parent, teacher, grandparent, friend, principal, office staff member, playground monitor, etc...).

2) Students name on coupon is put into a drawing for a prize. Student recites/enters the mission statement coupon as many times as possible, as long as a different

adult signs the coupon each time.

         3) Collection point (Jar) will be the WEST CAMPUS Office. K-2, 3-5, Grade 6.

Grades 6-8 & High School Students

1. Students are encouraged to submit suggestions for what action(s) Middle School or High School can take to help make the mission statement a reality - e.g. Students may have ideas about how they can help create an encouraging environment or discuss how they can demonstrate the virtues/character traits the school wants student to model,

2.Students can enter as many times as they wish as long as the suggestion is different and acceptable each time.

3. Collection point, (Jar), will be in the EAST CAMPUS Office for HS.

Our mission, every day, all day.....

Twin Peaks Charter Academy provides students with the foundations of virtue and character, building cultural literacy through a rigorous, content-rich curriculum in an encouraging environment.

Our legacy; "Academic Excellence"

Prizes will be awarded!

Drawing for Prizes:

 1. Drawing February 29

 2. $50 gift coupon per grade level(s). K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-10

CSAP Changing to TCAP across the State & Twin Peaks

(Transitional Colorado Assessment Program)

It doesn't seem possible that the TCAP (known formerly as the CSAP) is right around the corner! As we at Twin Peaks prepare for this round of testing, parents can do the same. Please take note of the TCAP testing schedule when planning vacations, doctor's appointments, or other elective absences of any kind. Please plan around test days as all students in Grade 3 - 10 will be tested in the areas of Reading, Writing, Math and Science (5th, 8th, 10th). Grade 3 Schedule is listed below as students in Grade 3 are always assessed first, for reading.

Remaining test days for other grades will be March 12 - March 21. Make up days will be provided but again, these are not optimal testing conditions for students to perform at their best.
There are many ways to support your student for the events of test days: providing a HEALTHY breakfast on testing days, ensuring your students have a full night of sleep, and reminding them of the importance of the test. With your support our students will demonstrate their true potential.

3rd Place-- Kelsey Robison and Thorbin Atwell-Donaghey

On behalf of the entire science department, Mr. Birch would like to thank all those who participated or volunteered this year. The projects were outstanding, and we couldn't have done it without the dedicated commitment of all those who helped.

Please give these students a big Round of A'paws when you see them!

READING CHALLENGE

Twin Peaks Students Challenged to Read

 New Goal of 1,500,000 Minutes.

Because students have read 1.1 million minutes, Mr. Buchman is challenging them to reach a new goal of 1,500,000 minutes K-6 before February 24.

Mr. Finn and Mrs. Feeney have volunteered to dress up if we meet the higher goal.

Don't forget that every student who reads 1,800 minutes will be eligible for the drawing for a

Kindle or a Leapster Explorer at the end of the Reading Challenge.

Thank you parents for all your support!

Keep turning in your Box Tops for Education!

At last count, Flagstaff has 21,431 and TPCA has 15,110.

Collect and turn in your Box Tops for Education to support TPCA.  Contact your friends, families and coworkers to see if they will help you collect. The school that collects the most Box Tops by the May 4 will get a treat from the opposing school.

To win a popcorn party for your class, turn your Box Tops in by this Friday, February 17.

All Box Tops turned in count towards all contests.

NEW CHALLENGE:

Help your child's homeroom teacher win a $50 spa gift certificate and turn in those Box Tops.

Over 175 retailers give eBoxTops to your school when you shop online. Remember to go to

Shop Online  when you shop on-line and you can earn eBoxTops.

HS SPRING TRACK

HS Spring Track season is fast approaching....The first day of practice is February 27

Registration packets are now available in the main office - east campus. Important reminders: Students need to submit a medical clearance form, signed by a physician within the past 12 months, and the participation fee may be paid by check (payable to Twin Peaks Charter Academy) or online at http://twinpeakscharter.revtrak.net.

The complete packet  needs to be returned to Marge Larsen, High school secretary, in the East campus main office by Thursday, February 23.

Any questions, contact  Mrs. Larsen at 303-772-7286x56906 or Jeremy Hamlin,

HS Athletic Director, at  hamlin_jeremy@svvsd.org.

HIGH SCHOOL PARENTS

Please pay HS fees separately.

When making payments for your high school student's fees, please ensure that the cash or check payment does not include fees for your elementary or middle school students.
Also, since we maintain separate accounts for high school, we ask that you bring your payment (check or exact cash) to the high school office east campus.
You are also welcome to pay online with your Debit or Credict card through Revtrak
This will help us credit student fees more efficiently and reduce the chances of error.
Thank you!

Teens can apply for summer jobs with Boulder County Youth Corps
Boulder County residents ages 14-17 can now apply for summer jobs with the Youth Corps.
