NEW! Board Member Spotlight

Commissioner Carolyn Mason

Commissioner Carolyn Mason was elected to the Sarasota County Commission in 2008. With a special interest in social issues, she serves as the County Commission's representative on several boards including the Suncoast Workforce Board for the past two years. She has won numerous awards over her career and she was recently recognized for her hard work on the Empowerment Project with the 2012 Suncoast Workforce Leadership Award. As Chairwoman of the Empowerment Project Steering Committee, a model was developed to create linkages between Suncoast Workforce, local domestic violence agencies and other support services. In collaboration with Hope Family Services in Manatee County and Safe Place and Rape Crisis Center in Sarasota County, this model can be replicated by other regional workforce boards and community agencies across the state. Commission Mason is a Sarasota native with three children, 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
