Ten Tips to Improve Workplace Attitudes

It can be a constant challenge for leaders to keep employees motivated in the workplace. Here are 10 ways to foster and maintain positive attitudes for your employees:

  1. Set Goals and Deadlines: Clearly defined goals and deadlines provide direction and a level of expectation. They can empower employees, give them a sense of accomplishment when goals are reached and give a reason to celebrate.
  2. It Starts at the Top: Maintaining a positive work environment starts with leadership. Today's labor force is diverse so understand their preferred learning, work environment and what motivates them.
  3. Flexible Leadership Styles: Leadership is not one style fits all. Be flexible and use good judgement on when to be open, relaxed and friendly or when to grab the reigns, set limits and ultimately accept full responsibility.
  4. Encourage People to Achieve & Find Meaning in Their Work: Employees want to know where they fit in and how their work contributes to the overall success of the business. Even in the most mundane job, when they understand the meaning and purpose, they are more likely to achieve results with a better attitude.
  5. Listen and Follow-up: Listen to your team's ideas and feedback. It is critical to follow-up so they know they've been heard and to let them know what course of action will be taken. Read more...
