DENTSPLY - A Company to Watch |

Some positions that businesses find difficult to fill include engineering, information technology and manufacturing occupations due to the technical aspect unique to the job. One company has tackled this challenge by utilizing local resources to grow their business.  DENTSPLY Raintree Essix Glenroe, a manufacturing facility in Sarasota and an office in Bradenton, is in a continuous growth mode with an employee base of 245, of which 150 are manufacturing associates. The company operates over 20 injection molding machines, high speed cutting systems who ship Orthodontic and Dental products to 38 countries worldwide. DENTSPLY Raintree Essix Glenroe also serves as a manufacturing "Center of Expertise" to support the vertical integration of outsourced manufacturing operations for other DENTSPLY International business units. Similar to other local companies, they reached a point in the last year where it was difficult to recruit manufacturing talent. "This was due to local competition for similar talent, a downturn in the availability of skilled labor, etc. - all which significantly impacted our business," said Roxanne Tyson, PHR, Human Resources Manager with DENTSPLY. DENTSPLY contacted Suncoast Workforce Business Services and that was the beginning of a strong partnership of working together to fill the business needs of a local employer. Last Spring, Suncoast Workforce recruited nine youth for paid work experience and six of those youth were hired by DENTSPLY for full-time positions that started on July 2. DENTSPLY also participated in our On-the-Job Training (OJT) program which gave them the opportunity to offer job training to candidates who were new to the (orthodontic) manufacturing industry. By hiring an employee in a training capacity, companies can be reimbursed for a portion of the employee's salary while in training for a specified period of time. "To date, we have hired 10 new employees, from manufacturing associates to engineers, which we have trained and developed and are valuable contributors to the business thanks to the aid of the OJT program. The Suncoast Workforce has been an innovative partner in helping us meet our business objectives," said Tyson. Through the entire recruiting cycle, Suncoast Workforce screened, tested and referred qualified candidates, and for their tough to fill positions, offered the OJT program as a solution. |
