Suncoast Workforce recently launched a job preparation workshop for veterans that is being offered in our Bradenton Career Center on Tuesdays from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. and in the Sarasota Career Center on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The workshop includes an overview of services, tips on how to build a resume, how to set-up job alerts, effective job search techniques, information on tax incentives, and education and training opportunities. We hope that you will share this information about this new offering for veterans with colleagues, family and friends.

Felder Joins Suncoast Workforce |
We are pleased to announce that Connie Felder has joined Suncoast Workforce as Director of Career Services. Connie has been with RochesterWorks! since its inception in 2000. She has over 15 years experience in workforce development and job training programs. She also has over 10 years experience in private sector customer service and sales. Connie has a masters degree in Counselor Education from State University of New York at Brockport. Welcome aboard Connie!

During President Obama's recent State of the Union Address, he highlighted a key workforce concern. Even though many business leaders want to hire American workers, they are unable to find workers with the right skills. "Growing industries in science and technology have twice as many openings as we have workers who can do the job. Think about that - openings at a time when millions of Americans are out of work. It's inexcusable." Suncoast Workforce and workforce development experts around the nation have watched this trend with alarm -- a widening skills gap, where worker skills do not keep pace with rapid advances in technology and changes in business models. This is now recognized as a critical issue at the federal, state, and local levels. On the state level, Governor Scott has made prioritizing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) for Florida's K-12 and higher education systems a priority in his Job Creation and Economic Growth Agenda.
