Dear   ,

In this time of thanksgiving, we are grateful for so many things. Personally, I am thankful for our wonderful staff who spend every day working to help businesses find qualified talent and local residents find good careers. The difficult labor market has nearly doubled the demand for services in our career centers, yet our staff remain diligent and dedicated to helping others in a manner that demonstrates our core values: service, excellence, respect, integrity, collaboration, and compassion. For that, I thank them.

Sincerely,

Mary Helen Kress

SUNCOAST WORKFORCE YEAR IN REVIEW

2011 Career Expo
2011 Suncoast Career Expo

Our program year concluded June 30, 2011 and the numbers are in. We appreciate our business, economic development, chamber, and non-profit partners who assisted Suncoast Workforce by connecting us to businesses who were hiring and who also referred residents who were looking to enter, re-enter and advance in the workplace. Theses employers have been fully supportive of our mission: To recruit, train, and retain talent for the Suncoast. As a result, here is what we accomplished:

  • 6,777 customers gained employment, up 19 percent over the prior program year
  • Through the Workforce Investment Act program (includes comprehensive career planning and/or training) 207 customers gained employment
  • 128 youth successfully completed basic skills development, counseling and career exploration
  • 147 customers completed a digital literacy program and attained a certificate

  • 32 companies utilized employed worker training grants for skills upgrades for 455 workers
  • 19 employers participated in the On-the-Job (OJT) program (new this past year)
  • Hosted over 100 mass recruitments for area employers, including a Career Expo last April attended by 87 employers and over 1,500 job seekers
