Sarasota's own David Houle, notable Futurist, has been traveling across the United States and around the world to such countries as Australia, New Zealand and Denmark, sharing key insights on how one might prepare for the future. AREA UNEMPLOYMENT RATES LOWER THAN ONE YEAR AGO |

On August 19, 2011, the Agency for Workforce Innovation, Labor Market Statistics Center released the unemployment rates for July. The unemployment rate in the Suncoast region (Manatee and Sarasota counties) was 11.0 percent, down 1.4 percent from 12.4 percent a year ago. This rate is equivalent to Florida's average. The July unemployment rate unemployment rate in Sarasota County (10.6 percent) was 0.8 percent lower than Manatee County's rate (11.4 percent). The metro area's over-the-year growth rates in manufacturing (+2.3 percent) and education and health services (+2.1 percent) were stronger than the state average in these industries. |
