SMUMC

Week of June 17th, 2012

Rev-W

Friends,

What a busy week last week was! Annual Conference was a week filled with meetings, information, and voting. Lots of church work got done including the merger of Santa Margarita and Shepherd of the Hills. The merger was accepted and supported by the whole conference! It was an honor to stand on the stage with some of our leaders and pastors. I can't express how excited I am for the future of the new Shepherd of the Hills!!!

Also, part of Conference was what we refer to as holy conferencing, which is simply the gathering together of God's people and the sharing of our stories and ministries. It is one of my favorite parts of Annual Conference, catching up with folks and hearing how God is moving around Cal-Pac.

This week was a big week in my own life and I want to thank everyone who came to the Annual Conference Ordination service. I also know that those of you who couldn't make it were still with me in spirit and heart as I walked across the stage and was ordained by our bishop as a full elder. It was one of the most beautiful moments to see everyone standing in support; I will cherish that forever!

This week I will be sharing from 2 Corinthians 5: 11-21. This is a passage that we began our year with and so we will return to it and look at how God has transformed our understanding as "One in Christ's Mission". It will be so wonderful to be together with all of you this Sunday for worship and communion!

Blessings,

~ Pastor Sarah

red crossBlood Drive Results

"Thank you for a wonderful blood drive on Friday, June 8th. We collected 21 units of life-saving blood. As you know, each unit is one donation or pint and can help to save up to 3 lives. SMUMC has helped to save up to 63 lives. Another fun fact is that collectively this year SMUMC and SOTHUMC have helped to collect 76 units of life-saving blood having helped to save up to 228 lives this year!! Way to go!!

On behalf of the American Red Cross, I would like to thank Mary Beth, Avis, and everyone at SMUMC & SOTH for your support of the community blood supply. We could not continue to save lives without you. I look forward to working with you both again on August 23rd at SOTHUMC blood drive."

"... do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."

~Joshua 1:9

The preschool is closed for the summer, but we are always available to do tours. We have a few MWF spots for Jr. K and 3's. There are also several T/Th spots for 4's and 3's. If you know a family with a prospective preschooler, we would love it if you would give them our phone number!

We will have Orientation for all new preschool families in the later part of August and then Open House on Sunday, September 9th . The first days of school will be Monday the 10th/Tuesday the 11th.

We hope you all have a safe and wonderful summer!
