Week of May 13th, 2012

Hello Friends,
This week we continue our series about celebration and joy, "Live It Up!" Last week we began the difficult process of looking at the things that steal our joy and keep us from fully experiencing the freedom of trust in God. This week we are going to look at the story of Christ's ascension (Luke 24:50-53) and how those in attendance began to worship in a new way because of their experiences. The questions we will be working through together include, "What would it look like to live a life of hope even in the struggles?" and "How would that make our life an act of worship?" This week we will celebrate communion together as an act of communal worship. We are also excited to welcome the Mission Viejo site Youth Band who will be our worship band for the 11 a.m. service.
I would like to take this time to thank each of you who reached out to me following the loss of my Grandma. She was indeed a huge part of my life and I am so grateful to have a community like SMUMC to grieve with. I am blessed to have had many amazing years with my "Nana" and I know that my memories will keep me smiling! I look forward to seeing all of you Sunday as we "Live It Up!"
~ Blessings, Pastor Sarah |

 Shepherd of the Hills Preschool
" Blessed are those who hear the word of God and obey it."
~ Luke 11:28
This week the preschool enjoyed a visit from the Orange County Fire Authority. Their representative, Tasha, came out and read a story called, "No Dragons for Tea." This story taught the children what to do in case your house catches on fire with an emphasis on not going back inside for a favorite toy! The children practiced crawling "under the smoke" and what phone # to dial for an emergency. After this, the children had a visit from a real fire engine and its crew! They showed us all the gear they wear and what they look like and sound like when it's on. Then we had a tour of the engine and all its compartments, cool tools, and hoses - all the hoses. And when they left, they turned on the siren - just for us!
Thanking God for our Fire Fighters and Paramedics,
Becci Lukes & Cindie Reilly
