Week of March 18th, 2012

Hello Friends,
This is the last week in our series on "Righting in the Margins." I am looking forward to sharing a message with you about our ministry of reconciliation from 2 Corinthians 5:11-21. This is a special week because we have several people who have completed the membership class and will be becoming members of SMUMC. What an exciting event for the whole church community! We also have a great opportunity to participate in training for our new prayer team ministry. Remember, there is a free lunch and training that will take place after our second service this Sunday... So much great stuff going on during this Holy season!
~ Blessings, Pastor Sarah

Prayer Team Information and Training This Sunday, March 25th following second service.
We are gathering a team of people to be part of a prayer team here at the Santa Margarita site. The team will serve two functions; praying with and praying for this church community. The team will pray with the pastoral team, as well as with individual congregants. Prayer is one of the foundational parts of a healthy and vibrant church. It brings us into the presence of God and deepens our connection to each other and our faith.
If you have an interest in being part of this team, please come to the informational and training event this Sunday, March 25th following the second service on . Lunch is included.

 Honor or Memorialize Loved Ones
Easter is truly a celebration and as part of that celebration we release butterflies. Butterflies serve as a symbol of Jesus' death and resurrection; just when the life of the caterpillar seems over, new life begins. Being part of the release ceremony is a beautiful way to participate in the reminder of the hope found in Christ.
This year to honor and memorialize loved ones we will be dedicating butterflies for our annual Easter Butterfly Release. A list of those loved ones will be included in the Easter Sunday bulletin. We are asking for a suggested donation of $10 and envelopes for this purpose can be found in the pew pockets. Please return envelopes to the offering baskets or to the church office.

 'Prayer Through the Arts' Day
Saturday, March 31st from 2 - 4 pm One way many of us connect to God is through visual expression. But, you don't have to be an artist to worship God in this manner. We invite everyone regardless off skill level to a two hour workshop on praying through the arts as we enter Holy Week. There will be several different mediums to work with following a guided meditation. We will have everything from collage materials to painting supplies.
Please RSVP now for the workshop and bring $10 for supplies with you when you attend. Contact Pastor Sarah if you have questions. |

Stations of the Cross Experience the Passion
Santa Margarita campus on Good Friday, April 6th from 7-9 pm
Choral Meditation and Communion at 7:15 pm and 8:15 pm The 14 Stations of the Cross are a retelling of Jesus' final 24 hours, from the Garden of Gethsemane to his death on the cross. Participants walk through the stations at their own pace, stopping to read the story and reflect on the art that goes with each station. The art may be a literal interpretation of the story - a cross, a garden, a crown of thorns; or it may be a reflection of the tone, mood, or emotions of the scene - betrayal, suffering, denial, obedience. As usual, the labyrinth is available for additional prayer and meditation. |

 Shepherd of the Hills Preschool
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
~ Philippians 4:13
One of the fun things about preschool life here at Shepherd of the Hills is our 'Fun Days' we have throughout the year. This last week we had 'Crazy Days' - we dressed crazy, wore crazy hairstyles and even ate a crazy snack. During outside time, we rode our bikes the opposite way and everything was set up CRAZY! We did our last Circle Time first and vice versa - so CRAZY! We have also been practicing our songs that we are singing for our upcoming Easter Program; because we are CRAZY about JESUS CHRIST!
In HIS Service,
Becci Lukes & Cindie Reilly
