Week of March 11th, 2012

Hello Friends,
This is the fourth week of Lent and for many of us the practices that we have either given up or taken on have begun to become difficult. I know for me driving by the Starbucks on the way to work is a small but powerful reminder of the various temptations that we face daily. This week we will be blessed to hear from Pastor Paula Ferris, the senior pastor at St. Andrew's by-the-Sea, the United Methodist church in San Clemente. Pastor Paula will be sharing with us the story of Ruth and Boaz. As we look at "Righting in the Margins," the story of Ruth is a reminder of the mutuality of ministry in and to the margins. This should be a great week in worship!
~ Blessings, Pastor Sarah

 Honor or Memorialize Loved Ones
Easter is truly a celebration and as part of that celebration we release butterflies. Butterflies serve as a symbol of Jesus' death and resurrection; just when the life of the caterpillar seems over, new life begins. Being part of the release ceremony is a beautiful way to participate in the reminder of the hope found in Christ.
This year to honor and memorialize loved ones we will be dedicating butterflies for our annual Easter Butterfly Release. A list of those loved ones will be included in the Easter Sunday bulletin. We are asking for a suggested donation of $10 and envelopes for this purpose can be found in the pew pockets. Please return envelopes to the offering baskets or to the church office.

 Prayer Team Coming Soon
We are gathering a team of people to be part of a prayer team here at the Santa Margarita site. The team will serve two functions; praying with and praying for this church community. The team will pray with the pastoral team, as well as with individual congregants. Prayer is one of the foundational parts of a healthy and vibrant church. It brings us into the presence of God and deepens our connection to each other and our faith.
If you have an interest in being part of this team, please come to the informational and training event following the second service on March 25th. Lunch is included.

There will be several different mediums to work with following a guided meditation. We will have everything from collage materials to painting supplies.
Please RSVP now for the workshop and bring $10 for supplies with you when you attend. Contact Pastor Sarah if you have questions. |

 Shepherd of the Hills Preschool
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
~ Philippians 4:13
This week we continued with our unit on Classic Children's Literature. The children and teachers enjoyed books by Leo Lionni, Marcus Pfister, Eric Carle, Frank Asch, Kevin Henkes, and Arnold Lobel, to name just a few. We also looked ABOVE and BELOW for the wee fairy folk called leprechauns, who have been visiting our play yard and leaving us GOLD to find! In Chapel we learned all about God's faithfulness to us and about us being faithful to Him. Miss Laura taught this concept through the story of Noah's Ark.
In HIS Service,
Becci Lukes & Cindie Reilly
