SMUMC

Week of Feb. 19, 2012

Rev-W

Hello Friends,

This week begins our Lenten Series on "Righting in the Margins." This is a series on the marginalization not just of other people, but of ourselves from God. For the season of Lent we will ask the tough question, "Who is on the margins of not just society, but our church and how does God want us to respond?" I want to invite you to come to the Lenten study series beginning next Wednesday at 7 p.m., "The 24 Hours that Changed the World." I look forward to being together in worship this week as we begin the spiritually challenging and important season of Lent.

24 Hours That Changed the WorldLenten Study

This year instead of several small Lenten groups, we are going to engage in one all-church study. As a community, we will be studying the book, 24 Hours That Changed the World by Adam Hamilton. Pastor Sarah will help facilitate the hour-long discussion and video series on Wednesday nights at 7pm, beginning Feb. 29th and going through April 4th. Each week feel free to bring your dinner beforehand at 6:30 pm; a group of us will be eating our brown bag dinners together before study to avoid traffic, etc. It is suggested, but not mandatory, that before you begin the study you purchase the book. The series leads us step by step through the last 24 hours of Jesus' life. Come and join this transformational time of devotion and study during Lent.

Food Drive
Food Drive for SCO

South County Outreach is desperately short on certain food items at this time of the year. They are limited in their ability to have Grocery Store Food Drives this month as it is also a key time for Girl Scout fundraising at the local grocery stores. The Cooperative Parish Give Ministry team is asking everyone, at both campuses, to take the grocery list insert in this Sunday's bulletin and pick up a few extra items for SCO as you shop.

Items include: peanut butter, cereal, macaroni & cheese, pasta, pasta sauce, and rice.

Together we can have a huge impact on hunger in our local communities. Please bring you items to church on or before March 4th.

"..in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you." ~ Matthew 7:12

This week we celebrated our love of all creatures, great and small, at our annual Pet Parade! The children brought their stuffed animal pets to school with them for sharing. Each pet was voted on for an award (the longest tail, softest fur, shortest legs, etc.) which each child proudly hung around their pet's neck/tail/leg! Then, at 11:45 am our families awaited us in the play yard and we paraded to music with our award winning pets for all to see and admire!

Registration for Fall 2012 continues at both Santa Margarita and Mission Viejo. The Santa Margarita campus will be adding a Jr. Kindergarten this year, and will continue to service children in the later stages of potty training. Contact us if you or someone you know would like a tour.
