Hello Friends,

  

What an amazing weekend the Mission Team had in Mexico. I have never seen houses go up so fast! It was such an amazing thing to see these families who have worked so hard to provide for their family be blessed with a home of their own. We also had a successful VBS experience with 200 children participating and more laughter and hugs than a heart could handle. It was a great way to kick off the 2012 mission year with more opportunities to come... I hope that each of us will get a chance to see how God moves in these amazing moments. 

 

This week we are continuing our series on "rEVOLution" - I am excited to be back in the pulpit as we discuss how God moves in the world in often small, revolutionary ways when we have faith the size of a mustard seed. This week we will look at Matthew 13:31-35. See you Sunday!

Shaking HandsSunday Morning Worship Team

 

Ever wondered how someone gets to be the Worship Coordinator? Do you have a friendly face and the ability to shake a hand? Do you want to find a way to connect more to the worship community at Santa Margarita? If you answered 'Yes!', then come and check out our Sunday Worship and Welcome Team meeting Jan 29th. It is an informational and instructional meeting following the church-wide communion lunch at noon. All current worship team members are asked to please attend this meeting as well.

New Beginnings Membership Class

 

Sunday, January 29th join Pastor Sarah and Pastor Craig in exploring what being a member of our church is all about. During this class they will share the meaning of church membership and our history as United Methodists. This class will be held at the Mission Viejo campus from 4 - 7 pm.The class includes dinner; child care is provided upon request. Please contact Liz in the office if you are interested.

A year after the District Superintendent visited SMUMC with some important and difficult choices for the future, it is now time to revisit where we are as a church and what the pathway forward looks like.  While we are working toward a merger with Shepherd of the Hills, there are questions and issues that SMUMC faces in the next few months that affect our future as a church.  The Pastoral Team of the Cooperative Parish (Pastors Craig, Sarah and Russ) will be making a presentation on the "State of the Church" that will provide a roadmap of the possible changes in store for the SMUMC community.

 

This gathering is distinct and separate from the Cooperative Parish Checkpoint scheduled for February 26.  Please make every effort to be present for this important gathering of the SMUMC community.

The Mission Viejo campus will be conducting the next Blood Drive with the Red Cross on Thursday, January 26th from  2 - 8 pm. 

 

If you wish to make an appointment, you can contact Avis French at 949-830-1167.  To register online, go to www.givelife.org, click on 'Make a Blood Donation Appointment' in the blue box, enter sponsor code "shepherdhills", and follow the instructions. You can also contact Mary Beth McGowan here at Santa Margarita.

 

The Cooperative Parish will be conducting blood drives every other month in 2012 at either the Santa Margarita or Mission Viejo campus. Donors are welcome at either site. If you want to make your appointments for the whole year, contact Avis French.
