Week of Nov. 6, 2011

Rev-W

Hello Friends,

This week we are continuing our series "Method in the Madness," where we ask what it means to express our faith from a United Methodist perspective. We are going to look at how we weigh what we hear and experience as truth. Jesus often pushed people's boundaries of understandings of how God acts within the world. This week we examine the story of Jesus healing the paralytic man from Luke 5. Jesus is called into question for pardoning this man, and it is through this story we will look at what is known as the Quadrilateral; a way of seeing God's action in the world. So, the next time you encounter something claiming to be from God, you just may have a new way of looking at it!

This Sunday, November 13th at 12:30 pm

The Rev. Myron Wingfield, our Mission Area Superintendent, has authorized Rev. Craig Brown to serve as a Presiding Elder for a special Church Conference to be held at Santa Margarita UMC.  The Conference will convene promptly at 12:30 pm in the Sanctuary.  The only action item before the Conference is the election of persons to the Board of Trustees to serve a term ending in June of 2012.  As a "Charge" Conference, members of the Stewards will have voice and vote at this meeting.  Members of the congregation at-large may have voice but no vote.  Should you have questions regarding the Conference, please direct them to Rev. Brown at revcraig@sothumc.org or by phone at 949-837-2941.

Cooperative Parish Congregational Checkpoint Recap

Last Sunday both the Santa Margarita UMC and Shepherd of the Hills UMC shared in the first Cooperative Parish Checkpoint gathering.  With over 100 people in attendance, the gathered group heard reports on how ministry is progressing between the two churches just four months into the Cooperative Parish.  Stories were shared about changed lives and changed ministries because of joint work.  In addition, several ministries presented their plans to move forward as a united church.  Pastors Craig, Sarah, and Russ also shared their respective roles in the Cooperative Parish along with the structure of the staff.  Our next Checkpoint gathering will happen in February so stay tuned for more information.

Operation Christmas ChildMission Opportunity -
Operation Christmas Child

This is an terrific opportunity for you and your children to participate in a mission project. This project is hosted by Samaritan's Purse, a Christian organization that provides spiritual and physical aid to people in need around the world. This Sunday after worship you may pick up a box to fill with gifts for a child who has likely never received a Christmas present. Then, simply bring your filled box the following week on Sunday, Nov. 20th as we gather at 12:30 pm to make notes for the kids and have a blessing over the boxes.  Contact Kathy Millhouse at 714-206-9243 for more information.
