SMUMC

Week of Oct. 30, 2011

Rev-W

Hello Friends,

This week we are celebrating "All Saints' Day," a celebration of the lives of those who passed away over the last year. It is a day when we remember what each life meant for the community of believers. As we look at how we order our own lives through the second week of our "Method in the Madness" series, we will consider how God has called all of us to live in community. For the early United Methodist that looked a certain way, and we, as modern day believers, have a lot to learn about authentic community and living in Koinonia (intentional deep community). Come this week as we hear from Acts 2:42-47 and celebrate the saints that have gone before.

~ Blessings, Pastor Sarah

Operation Christmas ChildMission Opportunity -
Operation Christmas Child

This is an terrific opportunity for you and your children to participate in a mission project. This project is hosted by Samaritan's Purse, a Christian organization that provides spiritual and physical aid to people in need around the world. This Sunday after worship you may pick up a box to fill with gifts for a child who has likely never received a Christmas present. Then, simply bring your filled box on Sunday, Nov. 20th as we gather at 12:30 pm to make notes for the kids and have a blessing over the boxes.  Contact Kathy Millhouse at 714-206-9243 for more information.

SHIP: Self-Help Interfaith Program

SHIP is a transitionary shelter which helps the recently homeless find a job. Dinners for this program are being hosted by SMUMC December 24th - 31st. We will be responsible for providing dinners each night at the SHIP house in Garden Grove. The most important part of dinner is the talking between the guests and your family; having that connection and interaction. The food is important, but secondary. Signups are at the Message Center. For details please contact Mark Burke

The development of blended practices and ministry programs are a key part of the Cooperative Parish transition, in anticipation of our unification as one church.  The plans for each ministry area will be presented to the entire congregation during the Congregational Checkpoint meetings, which are planned for November, February, and April.  Read about this and more in our October newsletter.
