Week of Sept. 4, 2011

Hello Friends,
I look forward to being with you this week - I have missed seeing all of you at church. I want to thank everyone who reached out with kind words and notes following the death of my grandfather. I feel so blessed by our community and am grateful for your encouragement.
This week is going to be a very special week at church; we are going to be observing a time of remembrance for the 10 year anniversary of Sept 11th. The message will tackle the question, 'What does it mean for our faith to live in what many call the post 911 world?' The title of the sermon is "A Good Defense" and that is exactly what we will be talking about, what is a good defense? The scripture (Eph 6:10-20) gives us a whole lot of information about how we should arm ourselves... come this week and join the conversation. See you Sunday.

Regarding our Blood Drive on Aug. 26th...
A note from Jessie Salmon, Acct. Mgr., Biomedical Services,
"Thank you for your continued support of the community blood supply. We can't continue to save lives without great blood drive sponsors like SMUMC. You had another great blood drive. We collected 28 units of life-saving blood. As you know, each unit is one donation and can help to save up to 3 lives. SMUMC has helped to save up to 84 lives. BRAVO!! Another fun fact is that for 2011 so far you have helped to collect 89 units of blood, which have helped to save up to 267 lives. WAY TO GO!!
Volunteers, whether they are recruiters or donors, make all the difference in meeting the blood needs of local patients. Your team effort made it possible for people to have another chance at happier and healthier lives."
