SMUMC

Week of Aug. 21, 2011

Rev-W

Hello Friends,

This week we will talk about what it means to move beyond doing the work of new creation, and start leading the way of new creation. As we have become a co-operative parish there are many ways that we are experiencing new creation, not just in our private walks with God, but also in our corporate lives as worshipping communities. This week we will focus on how to lead the way of new creation. Being a new creation is contagious and demands explanation!  We will talk about how the disciples became contagious using Acts 4: 1-21.

Have a blessed week!

~ Pastor Sarah

Prayer Summit 2011

Has prayer always baffled you?  Never truly understood just why we are to pray?  Feel uncomfortable praying out loud?  Feel unworthy asking for prayer? Want to deepen your prayer life?

You are cordially invited to our Prayer Ministry's inaugural Prayer Summit, "A Practical Look at Private and Corporate Prayer". Over the course of the weekend we will try to uncover the mysteries around prayer through the leadership of Paul Walterman.

September 23rd, 24th & 25th.  We begin Friday at 7 pm and will end at 9 pm.  Saturday begins at 10 am and ends at 3 pm.  Sunday's session is scheduled from 6 - 7:30 pm.  There is no charge to attend and registration info will be available soon.

The development of blended practices and ministry programs are a key part of the Cooperative Parish transition, in anticipation of our unification as one church.  The plans for each ministry area will be presented to the entire congregation during the Congregational Checkpoint meetings, which are planned for November, February, and April.  Read about this and more in our August newsletter.

Prayer Opportunity /
Praying for Others

If you would like to become part of our Cooperative Parish Prayer Chain or if you have a need for prayer, please email Carolyn Bohmholdt.  Prayer, as we know, is simply communication with God through written or spoken words, thoughts, meditation or song.  It is a very powerful tool.  The power of prayer should not be underestimated.  James 5:16-18 declares, "...The power of a righteous man is powerful and effective."  All requests received through "In Touch" cards or office communications are distributed to the prayer chain for continued prayer during the week.
