Hosting: Would your family like to host a French student this summer?
Language & Friendship, Inc., is offering an opportunity for STA students and their families to be volunteer hosts to French teens in the Kansas City area and their teacher from June 14-July 13, 2012. We anticipate ten students from Lyon (approximately five girls, five boys and one teacher) who wish to improve their English, learn about the American experience first-hand and develop friendships across cultures. (Details about specific students are not available at this time.) While this is an ideal opportunity for French students, it is not necessary for hosts to speak or take French!
General information is available at the "Hosting" link on L&F's website, www.languageandfriendship.com. Please contact Ms. Alice Amick (aamick@stteresasacademy.org) for an application form (to be returned by December 1st). Merci beaucoup!

Athletics
October is a special time of year for STA athletics as District and Sectional tournaments heat up. Five of six varsity sports competed in various locations throughout the Metro.
Cross Country finished second out of 8 teams at the sectional meet on Saturday and qualified as a team for the Missouri State Meet. Lane Maguire finished in second place (her highest finishing place in any meet this season) with 19:00, which is the #5 best time in school history. Courtney Coppinger was our second runner, with a strong 8th place finish and a time of 19:33. Freshmen Ann Campbell (14th place) and Hayden Lee (24th place) medaled as well. The Stars will compete in the Class 4 race at the Oak Hills Golf Course in Jefferson City on November 5th. Race time is 1:05PM. This is the 19th time the St. Teresa's Academy cross country team has qualified to compete as a team at state in the 23 years our program has been in existence. Dance continues to keep crowds entertained as they perform at all home volleyball matches. The squad will begin participating in competitions during the winter season and will hold a youth clinic in December. Golf had a successful post season finishing in second place in the Class 2, District 7 tournament. A combined score of 357 qualified the Stars for the Sectional tournament where they finished first (351), defeating Notre Dame de Sion for the second time of the year. The victory at Sectionals qualified the Stars for the State Tournament held at Sedalia Country Club where they finished sixth (376). Tennis won the Class 2, District 14 tournament with a 5-1 victory in the finals over Blue Springs South. Following the win, the Stars hosted the State Sectional tournament where they fell to Park Hill High school 5-4. The squad also qualified three individuals for the State Championship. Caroline Connor qualified in singles, while Grace Wells and Hannah Bredar qualified in doubles. Softball wrapped up their season in the second round of Class 4, District 13 tournament at Grandview. The Stars defeated Grandview in the first round 14-12 before falling to the top seeded Belton, 6-0. Volleyball defeated Park Hill South 2-0 in the sectional semi-finals on Saturday, but were edged out of a state final four appearance by an impressive Lee's Summit West squad in the sectional finals. Our volleyball program has proved again to be one of the top teams in the state and enjoyed a very successful 29-7 season against some very tough competition that includes nationally ranked teams and eventual state champions..
