Have You Read . . .
"When, Why and What to Outsource," Chief Learning Officer, Sept. 2010, pp. 54-56. Presents insights from a survey of senior training executives revealing when they outsource training, what they outsource, and why, and what they consider the most important criteria for selection of a provider.

"Why Men Still Get More Promotions Than Women," Harvard Business Review, Sept. 2010, pp. 80-85. Argues that mentoring alone is not sufficient to get highly qualified women promoted into top positions. Posits that women need the benefit of what men have had for years: sponsorship., which goes beyond coaching in that the mentor uses his or her influence with senior executives to advocate for the mentee. Presents advice on how to set up a sponsorship program.

"ROE's Rising Star: Why Return on Expectations is Getting So Much Attention," Training & Development, Aug. 2010, pp. 34-38. Distinguishes between ROI and ROE and why ROE is better. Stresses the need for training designers to get buy-in and participation at the planning stage from all the stakeholders in the training success. Recommends that training outcomes be defined in specific, concrete, measurable results, not just in increased employee productivity but also in improved company environment and bottom line.
