Broadway Green Alliance Lighting Workshop: Using Greener Products and Practices
Broadway Green Alliance Lighting Workshop 2012
Lighting designer James Bedell and Richard Cadena address the crowd at New York University Tisch School of the Arts where the Broadway Green Alliance Lighting Workshop was held.

On a spring-like Monday evening, February 27, the Broadway Green Alliance Lighting Workshop drew a full house at the Frederick Lowe Theatre on the campus of New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. The workshop featured presentations by James Bedell and Richard Cadena and opened with an exhibition of lighting vendors including GLP, Rosco, BlackTank, Robert Juliat, PRG, 4Wall Entertainment, Philips Lighting, ETC, and ACT Lighting.

Bob Usdin kicked off the presentation, prefacing with the idea that greener lighting practices can be achieved by choosing greener products and by using greener practices. Richard Cadena, author and ETCP Recognized Trainer, introduced a series of metrics by which to measure the environmental impact of lighting products and compared several luminaries based on Mike Wood's product reviews that appear in Lighting & Sound America (www.mikewoodconsulting.com). James Bedell of James Bedell Lighting (www.jamesbedell.com) discussed several case studies in which he was able to achieve excellent results with the judicious use of greener practices.
