PLASA Focus Comes to Austin

Devon Allman & Honeytribe, Swingin' Johnsons to Highlight Trade Show

PLASA Focus Austin is the association's inaugural live event production industry trade show in North America. It has been going strong in the United Kingdom for several years, and this event, which will be held at the Renaissance Hotel on February 22 and 23, is shaping up to be a great complement to the show across the big pond.

In addition to several exhibitor booths, the show offers many free seminars on a variety of topics for a variety of industry pros. Some of the sessions include:
  • media server programming with Hippotizer
  • demystifying audio
  •  digital video content protection
  • audio networking
  • and more

Special guest speakers include lighting designer Peter Morse (Bette Midler, Barbara Streisand, Prince, Madonna, Shakira, Reba McEntire), who will speak about his lighting techniques, and lighting designer Brian Gale (Mark Taper Forum, Disneyland), who will talk about the art of lighting design.

There will also be a special session about sustainability in the theatre community conducted by Charles Deull, co-chair of the Broadway Green Alliance. The BGA has been a world leader in greener theatre practices and this session is sure to be a good one. The seminars are free but space is limited so sign up today at www.plasafocus.com/austin.

The fun doesn't end on the trade show floor. On Wednesday, February 22, Devon Allman & Honeytribe will top off the event with a party at legendary blues club Antone's on Sixth Street in downtown Austin. The Swingin' Johnsons (Robert Mokry of LightParts, Bruce Jordahl, Scott Church of 4Wall, and Thommy Hall of Vari-Lite) will kick off the party at 8PM. Admission is free for registered attendees of PLASA Focus Austin.
