Make Travel Fun, Even the Ride
Little PimHitting the road for the holidays might be a tradition, but the endless chorus of "Are we there yet?" from the little ones can make the ride less-than-cheerful. Instead of dreading the trip, this year your kids can use the time to practice a new language.

Little Pim, an award-winning foreign language learning series, offers iPhone apps, CDs, flashcards and other media to help tots learn a foreign language. Julia Pimsleur Levine, founder of Little Pim and  daughter of the renowned linguist Dr. Paul Pimsleur, has also offered Let's Travel! readers language-game ideas  to engage the entire family during the holiday commute:
  • Play "I Spy" to help children name objects/colors in another language.
  • Count snacks or other objects in a foreign language. Have a race to see who can get to ten with no mistakes the fastest!
  • Help your child write a letter with foreign language words or image captions
  • Play music in a foreign language and encourage your kids to sing along.
  • Use one of Little Pim's two vocabulary booster Apps, Word Bag and Talking Coloring Book ($1.99 each on iTunes).
For more information on DVDs, flashcards, CDs, iPhone apps, digital downloads, Little Pim coloring sheets and other ways to engage traveling tots, visit www.LittlePim.com.
England's Christmas MarketsEngland Christmas Market
England is celebrating Christmas big this year with over 15 markets across the country. From a Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park to a Victorian Festival in Portsmouth, the various markets will feature everything from Husky dog sledding to gourmet food to ice sculptures. And, of course, there will plenty of gift-buying opportunities along the way! Have a look at the festivities at Visitengland.com.
CAA Winter Festival of Lights, Niagra Falls
NiagraNiagra Falls will be ablaze through January as 125 animated lighting displays and 3 million tree and ground lights illuminate the CAA Winter Festival of Lights. When you're not viewing the world-famous Enchantment of Disney displays or the world's largest illuminated Canadian-American Flag, there will be comedy shows, concerts, and even races to provide entertainment. The festival is also introducing its newest attraction this year, TD RINK at the Brink, an ice skating rink strikingly close to Horseshoe Falls. There is no admission fee to view the illuminations but donations are gratefully accepted and used to enhance the displays. Wfol.com has the details. Photo courtesy WFOL.com.
Advent in Germany
We would be remiss to exclude Germany when listing holiday attractions. Berlin is home to 60 Christmas markets, which collectively feature everything from life-sized nativities to Jewish Museum extravaganzas. For one Euro, visitors can explore the illuminated French and German Cathedral and the Concert House in Berlin before sampling the many creations of the cooks and craftsmen who fill the streets. Meander over to another market and you'll find historic carousels, huge trampolines and opera shows. See it all with the Live Like a German Christmas Market Tour or travel solo with suggestions from visitberlin.de.
102nd Annual Christmas Boat Parade
The Newport Beach Chriboatstmas Boat Parade offers much more than balmy weather. From December 15 through December 19, more than 150 boats of all sizes will flaunt their colorful lights and vivid Christmas scenes to onlookers for the 102nd year in a row. Of course, fireworks and carolers will be provided! To read more, visit www.christmasboatparade.com.

n, Puerto Rico
If you want to escape Jack Frost and evergreens this year, then Puerto Rico's warm weather and sparkling beaches might be a welcomed option. Located on Puerto Rico's west coast, Rincn has the low-key feel of a small surfing town without losing the benefits of the rest of island. With surf schools, paddleboard and kayak rentals, and diving opportunities, you'll have the choice of exploring the crystal waters or just relaxing on the shore. And, you don't have to waste entire days traveling: the flight is only 3.5 hours from Miami. For more info, visit rincon-pr.com. Photos courtesy of Rincon-PR.com.
A Garden Escape
Opened for the first time last week, Babylonstoren is the ultimate escape for a traveler searching for relaxation. Those who wish to explore can take advantage of guided visits of the farm, vineyards, extensive fruit orchards, swimming and canoe trips in the dam and hikes in the sloping hills and mountains that rise above the valley. A spa is also available. Visit Babylonstoren.com for more info.
