 Kites
International Kite Festival, India
While Obama is visiting India this week for the festival of Diwali, we've found another cause for celebration: the festival of Uttarayan. Beginning on January 14, Uttarayan marks the the turn from winter to summer in the Hindu calendar. (That's right, we said summer.) To celebrate, the city of Ahmedabad invites kite makers and flyers of all sorts to the International Kite Festival to showcase their creations in the summer sky. For the early birds, Ahmedabad's kite market is open 24 hours a day the week before the festival so that you can stock up for the festivities. And if you're planning a visit to India in the next few weeks, don't miss the very first kite creations that hit the streets this month. Visit www.gujarattourism.com for more details.
Quebecparade
Qubec Winter Carnival
From January 28 to February 13, Quebec will hail all things winter in its 57th Winter Carnival. Complete with parades, snow sculptures, and an ice palace, the festival features attractions for the big, small and even the adventurous. If the thought of 120m ice slides don't get your heart rate up, then a zip line ride over the festival or a snow bath should do the trick. Check out www.carnaval.qc.ca/en/ for the carnival itinerary, hotel accomodations, and events not to be missed. Letter from the Editor

Dear Reader:

Welcome to peak travel season! Chances are, you already have your plans outlined for the next months with (hopefully not too rigid) schedules to see family and celebrate the holidays. Or, maybe you're escaping to brighter skies before we hit the brunt of winter. As you consider your plans for the upcoming months, think outside of the box. Sleep underwater, take advantage of a great deal and put on your party hat. With festivals around the world celebrating everything from snowmen to the coming of summer, this break can be much better than blas.

Happy Travels!
