Austin, Texas Goes Green!
Austin, Texas has become the largest metropolis in the U.S. to switch to 100% renewable energy. "As of Oct. 1 all of the city's municipal facilities subscribe to Austin Energy's Green Choice renewable energy product." The energy for Austin is being created at a wind-farm in eastern Texas. Austin bought about 400 million kilowatt-hours of renewable energy. While they only need a percentage of that, Austin has also become the market leader for selling renewable energy in 2010.
This achievement comes at an exciting time as the U.S. Green Chamber prepares to open a branch in near by San Antonio. President, Dr. Rich LaHaye of the Lone Star Chapter has this to way about the announcement;
"Congratulations to the City of Austin for becoming 'The largest municipality in the entire nation, to power all of its facilities using only renewable energy.' Once again the 'City' of Austin demonstrates an impressive level of leadership and innovation - The kind Texans so greatly desire and deserve from our Governor and the leaders of our Texas State House Chambers - when it comes to renewable energy and resource conservation.
Its time all elected officials in Texas realize what Austin City leaders have always known; "Green issues aren't red or blue issues - they're Texas issues. It's simply about ensuring that the kind of land, water and natural resources that future generations of Texans receive are in the condition they deserve to inherit from today's generation of Texans." AUSTIN; Once Again, You Do Us Proud."

U.S. Green Chamber Financing Green Projects Panel
Date: October 20, 2011 Time: 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Green projects are an increasing percentage of new/current retro fit projects, and renewable energy projects have very attractive return on investment for your balance sheets. However, structuring secure and sustainable financing for green building and renewable energy projects requires more legal creativity and effort than financing other types of more traditional projects.
The U.S. Green Chamber will be hosting a panel of expertise to discuss the possibilities, effectiveness, and guidelines for financing green project discussion Thursday, October 20th, 6-9pm at Mintz Levin.
There is so much risk aversion that many financial institutions seek cross-collateralization of non-green projects to alleviate the fear, real or imagined, associated with financing green projects. Getting all parties on the same page regarding the financial deals and documentation may take longer than traditional projects. But, as lenders and borrowers get more projects under their belts, this timeline will shorten.

U.S. Green Chamber Staff Member Spotlight : Aarron Hammock
Aaron works here at the U.S. Green Chamber of Commerce as a talented videographer. Want a video spotlight for your business? Aaron can produce pretty much anything having to do with video. He graduated from the University of California, Irvine in June of 2011. Since then he has begun producing member spotlights for the chamber, where he hopes to promote green business practices in an effort to inspire more businesses to become green.
Aaron feels very strongly about the well-being of the environment, and believes that the catalyst for change is first and foremost the education of the population. The U.S. Green Chamber has become the ideal platform for businesses to not only learn about sustainability practices for the environment, but also how this will help them become more economically sustainable.
In his free time he enjoys playing basketball, hiking, snowboarding, karate, and making movies. He is currently producing his own weekly show on youtube, and hopes to one day work with Steven Spielberg.
