Engaged Youth Update
On February 25, our Engaged Youth volunteered at the Miami Dade College Health Fair. They assisted with vision screenings and provided information about health issues and preventative care.

They learned about the health disparities in our community and the services available to meet those needs. The students in the inaugural class of our Engaged Youth program are high school juniors and seniors from more than 25 schools in Miami-Dade County. These dynamic students are part of our commitment to create a continuum of leadership in this community. For more information on our Engaged Youth program, please click here. |
Nonprofit Executive Grants
Last August, we selected six leaders for our Nonprofit Executive Grants program. This program allows for nonprofit leaders to attend a leadership skills and management training program anywhere in the country.

One of this year's recipients, Cecile Houry, Director of Student Programs at the Honors College at Florida International University, is using her grant to participate in the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Miami Program.

Bayfront Parkway
From February 28 - March 4, The Miami Parking Authority (MPA) lent the median surface parking lot that is located in the center of Biscayne Boulevard between SE 1st and E Flagler Streets so that it could be temporarily converted into an active urban park seamlessly connected to the surrounding urban core of Downtown Miami. "Bayfront Parkway: Meet me in the Median" was led by Ralph Rosado, a Miami Fellows Alumnus.
The lot was covered in grass with moveable seating, food trucks, exercise equipment and more. Performances throughout the five days varied from spoken word to jazz shows sponsored by Miami Dade College. The goal was simple - to activate this space with everyday activities of a typical park. You can read The Miami Herald article on this project here.
