VOLUNTEER AT THE DEMOCRATIC TENT AT THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY FAIR
As we do each year, WSDC has adopted a day to staff the Democratic Party tent at the Montgomery County Fair in Gaithersburg. It is especially important in an election year with many confusing ballot questions that we get out the Democratic message.
This year we will be at the fair with District 16 Democrats on Wednesday, August 15th from 10am to 10pm. We need volunteers to work two hour shifts which entitles you to a free pass inside. Come to help the Democrats and stay to enjoy the fair. Email WSDC member Marc Korman at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information and to volunteer at the Democratic Party booth.
WSDC CONGRATULATES DR. JULIA CLARK
Dr. Julia Clark, a member of WSDC, received the National Science Foundation Director's Award for Distinguished Service. Dr. Clark was recognized "for an exemplary career in Federal Service, especially regarding underrepresented STEM communities as represented in her nationally recognized book 'Redirecting Science Education: Reform for a Culturally Diverse Classroom.'"
POLITICAL BOOK CLUB
The August 15 selection is Assassin's Gate by George Parker who revisits the United States' misadventure in Iraq and how American intervention to remove Saddam Hussein has changed the dynamic of the Middle East.
The book club meets the third Wednesday of every other month, 10:30 a.m. at members' homes. A facilitator leads the discussion for each book. Want to join the conversation? New members are always welcome.
Contact Estelle Stone at email@example.com
If you're interested in seeing what other books have been discussed, please go to www.mcWSDC.org and click on Political Book Club.
Do you have ideas for future programs? Do you know someone who would be a great speaker at a future WSDC event? Or would you just like to get more involved with the overall work of the Club?
