The Floating Stone Inn

The Floating Stone Inn & Aqua SpaSeptember 2011

Greetings!Linda Ellinor at the pools

Welcome to our September e-blast!
We had a full month of events and classes
during August with more starting in
September & October -- be sure to check
out our class schedule.

If you werenʼt able to make the free Tai Chi demonstration on August 13th, you can see video clips by visiting our Facebook page at: http://www.facebook.com/FloatingStoneInn and clicking on the Floating Stone video link on the left-hand side of the home page. Combined with the ethereal music they played, it turned our outside courtyard into a dreamlike oasis.  Jerry and Patti, the sponsors of the event, have promised to come back in October or November to put on another demonstration and start an on-going class at Floating Stone. Tai Chi is a great way to use movement in a meditative way to still the mindand provide strength and coordination for the body.

As the September turns to Fall, I am reminded of the difficulty we have in making life changes. Recently, I attended a movie called "Forks Over Knives" about minimizing animal-based foods (dairy and meats) in our diet for better health.  So many research-based studies point to this inevitable conclusion.  See www.thechinastudy.com. This change can be a hard one if we are accustomed to a meat and potato diet.

Though I have been wanting to have less meat in my diet, I recently attended a week-long program of eating only "living" foods (meaning uncooked, raw) and drinking green juices (wheatgrass and a mixture of celery/cucumber/sprouts/blue green algae).  I am not of the opinion that one can move overnight to this sort of diet, though I can see a way of transitioning from our normal diets to this way of eating.

I am busily working with nutritionists and others in putting on our next "Alkaline Living" workshop together.  This 5-day program scheduled for November 6 - 11 will demonstrate how we can use a staged approach for moving towards an alkaline lifestyle, one that is free of chemicals (chlorine, pesticides, and food additives) and more abundant in living, plant-based foods.

I hope to see you all at the Floating Stone enjoying our facilities and programs.

Sincerely,

Linda Ellinor

Here's the deal: Intimacy has little to do with the other person. Intimacy begins with me. What does it mean to be real, honest and authentic? What does it mean to practice real communication? Why are we afraid to be real? Terry teaches us-with very practical tools-about a life with real and open communication. . . built on a foundation of kindness, appreciation, sensitivity, and awareness.  To register call 1-800-524-5370 or go to Terry's website at: www.terryhershey.com.  $49, includes lunch.

The Importance of WaterWater
WELLNESS TOPIC

Many of us don't realize that when we are born we are 90% water.  As we age, this goes down to 70% as adults and can drop as low as 55% by the time we reach our elder years.  Many of us don't realize that dehydration can lead to all sorts of medical conditions that could be prevented if we are simply more conscious of how much and what type of water we drink.

The rule of thumb, in terms of the quantity of water we should all be drinking, is to take our weight and divide it in half.  Put ounces behind that and we have the minimum amount of pure water we should be consuming every day to just stay hydrated.

I used to think that I should drink when I felt thirsty.  Often this sign of thirst means that we should have been hydrating ourselves long before.   As we age, we can't always tell that we aren't hydrated - especially in a dry, hot climate like ours here in the Sonoran Desert.  Dr. David Carpenter, writes in Change Your Water, Change Your Life, 2009:  "When cellular water is reduced during water rationing, each cell is required to limp along with less than the optimal amount of water.  This results in symptoms that are sometimes mistaken for illness.  Asthma, arthritis, blood disorders, digestive disorders (including heartburn), and many chronic pains are often an indication of chronic dehydration and water rationing."

The quality of the water is also critical.  If you are drinking tap water or bottled water, make sure you know the source and content of the water.  The government does not provide oversight for many of the chemicals being poured into our public water supply.  In a recent Reader's Digest, it was stated that chemicals, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and other toxic substances were routinely found in our tap water and bottled waters.  What can we do about this?  Some of us may use reverse osmosis and others a distilling process.  Neither of these are optimal as they remove the vital minerals from our water.  A carbon filter is better, but needs to be changed out routinely or can do more damage than good.

By "ionizing" our water, we not only remove the chlorine, fluoride, and other chemicals, but we can produce a highly rich 'alkaline' drinking water that has three properties that lead to significant and effective health benefits:  smaller molecular clusters for better absorption/hydration of the water, anti-oxidants which neutralize the free-radicals leading to aging, and higher pH alkalinity that can counter the very acidic foods we eat that come from a meat and potato-like diet.

We are holding our next free Alkaline/Ionized Water Demonstration on September 15th from 5:30 to 7 p.m.  We will feature a special guest speaker, Keith James, who has developed and taught the only "Certified Cellular Hydration Specialist Program" in the world.  He is a leading distributor of alkaline/ionized water from Phoenix. He will be at the Floating Stone to demonstrate the incredible value of alkaline/ionized water to one's health and well-being.  Don't miss this one!  This is a rare honor to have Keith come and present.

We are also hosting a "Lunch & Learn" session on "Healthy Living with Alkaline/Ionized Water" on September 21st at 11:30 a.m.  Please mark your calendars and RSVP for these by calling us at 520 398-3193 or email us to reserve your space at  info@thefloatingstoneinn.com.
