12th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony
The 12th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony was held on Saturday, December 3rd. Santa was certainly happy that the weather held out for Plumstead Townships Annual Tree lighting! Plumstead Residents came outside to enjoy fellowship and good cheer! It was a record crowd!
Our fantastic Plumstead Volunteer Fire Department provided transportation for our guests of honor, Mr. and Mrs. Clause. Upon their arrival, we had Erica and Kate Zavalis all ready to assist Santa with the lighting of the tree. When we asked Erica (age 4 and 1/2) if she might be able to light the tree, she replied "I'm tall enough to reach the switch!" So with only holding Santa's hand, she walked up to the post, reached as high as she could to flip the switch to successfully light our new evergreen tree!
Afterwards, all who attended went inside to enjoy some music, balloon crafts, hot cocoa, and delicious treats made by our very own Groveland Grille. Of course anyone who wanted to sit with Santa could, it was a fantastic community event.
Special thanks go out to the Plumstead Volunteer Fire Department and the Plumstead Park and Rec. committee for putting this program together. See everyone next year.

Plumstead Play in the Parks Program!
Although it is winter, we want to begin looking forward to Spring Time activities. What better way to get kids (and parents) outside to play in our parks!
Our Park and Recreation department is putting together a new program for the pre-school bunch to PLAY in our PARKS!
- Beginning in March a schedule will be posted on our web-site sharing a Meet Me at the Park date and time.
- Parents don't need to sign up, just look at our park schedule and go to the assigned park at the designated day and time.
- The activity planned is nothing! We want you to show up and have your kids play with others!
- One week you'll meet at Jennifer Schweitzer Park on Tuesday morning or Thursday afternoon, with a suggestion of having kids play in the field, or walk through the nature trail.
- The next week will post to go to Landis Green Park, and bring you bikes! Walk to the bridge and back on either a Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning.
- This program is designed for anyone who might want to meet new people, and have their kids get outside.
- Most important, it is FREE! YES weekend times will also be posted!
Do you have an idea of something you think a group of pre-schoolers might like to do? If so, touch base with Donna DeStefano on our Park and Rec. and give us your ideas! Our goal is to get everyone Out and about to PLAY IN OUR PARKS!!!! We can't wait to see you there! |

Trails Committee
In response to the 2010 Plumstead Township residential survey results it is clear to the members of the Park and Recreation committee that Walking Trails and Biking Trails were very high on the priority list for Plumstead residents. Walking Trails were requested 3 ½ to 1 over almost every other activity and Biking trails were requested 2 ½ to 1 . The Park and Recreation committee is aligned with the community and would like to move forward with the formulation of a network of Walking and Biking trails throughout our community. Some of our initial goals are to link our neighborhoods together, provide walking and biking access to our parks, access our village centers, and create network of safe corridors the residents of Plumstead to get outside and enjoy "Beautiful Plumstead".
Next we need your help we are looking for volunteers preferably from the different developments and areas all around Plumstead. If you are connected into the thoughts of your neighbors that is even better we want to take in consideration a well-rounded view of the issues, ideas and keep moving forward. The Plumstead Township Supervisors depend on the Park and Recreation committee and the community to give them the feedback needed to understand the needs of the community. We welcome anyone interested in this topic to attend our Park and Recreation committee meetings held on the 4th Tuesday of every month where we will be appointing a subcommittee to carry this very important task forward.
Thank you for your interest in our community and desire to make a difference.
If you are interested in hearing more about our plans, sign up here for the "Plumstead Trails" email list. We'll keep you informed and you can let us know what you think! |
