Your Park and Rec Committee

Welcome!

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to our Plumstead Township Park and Recreation Committee par-excellence.

Whenever I think of this dynamic group of people working together I feel a great rush of gratitude. Not just for each member as the wonderful human beings that they are individually, but also for the unity of devotion to provide useful, educational and just pure fun programs for us all to enjoy and celebrate in Plumstead Township. It gives me a sense of positive direction and meaningful work given for us to do together. It makes life happy.

The description of duties of the Park&Rec committee members that follows is a little lacking in describing what this dedicated group of people do for the township and at the same time, indicative of the commitment to defined tasks that they dedicate themselves to. There are 7 members of the township Park&Rec Committee:

Richard H. McNutt chairs the committee and does the best he can to keep the meetings on time and on point while at the same time empower the committee to freely initiate and accomplish their visions of recreational and natural programs. Richard is the biggest cog in the wheel of the dynamic creation process.

Nick Lykon is the vice chair and rides herd on the long term planning issues of the township goals for Park and Recreation. Nick keeps focus on vision and never hesitates to let us know when we're off point. Nick keeps us in tune with what the community is asking for and at the same time keeps us realistic on what we can do with what we have.

Kathy Mangione is our secretary and champion to the baseball and sports activities. Kathy keeps the records of our doings in such an elegant and accurate form that you can almost hear the heartbeat of our meetings and gatherings from her writings. Kathy has been with Park and Rec almost all the way back to its beginnings in the 90's. Without Kathy, much of the spirit of the continuous path of the community would be lost to our memory.

Donna DeStefano is listed as operations in trails and event committees, but really she's the entertainer. If you're like me and you resist overwhelming joviality in order to feel a sense of meeting operational order, I can guarantee. You'll lose it. There is no such thing as controlling your sense of humor around Donna. I saw a bird in a tree in her back yard one day laughing uncontrollably as she watched Donna describe kids jumping on a physical fitness trail.

Chrissy Grube keeps us honest, direct and on point and then goes out and forms all sorts of partnerships in the community to work with the committee to implement our goals. Chrissy is listed as events committee operations and like everybody else on the committee, she keeps herself in everybody else's business. In some ways, this describes committee operations. We're like a family business where everybody can involve themselves in each other's business knowing what the overall goal is and it is an oiled wheel where incredible work is done and everybody's having fun doing it.

Becky Barlow is our communications chief to the community and beyond. The website: PlumsteadParkandRec.org is Becky's creation. Everyone around Becky's efforts is aware of the superhuman efforts Becky gives charitably to the community and we are all awed with great respect for her talents and commitment. Even though Becky is like everyone else on the committee, she's a critical operating component of a highly functional team, her work is remarkably more outstanding in perception because it's accessible to all of us to witness. Simply outstandingly remarkable communication skills.

Finally, we have Mike Snyder. There's no reason for him to be last one mentioned, because he's usually the first one seen. Mike has been Easter Bunny, Santa Claus and can become anything. You can find him in the Plumstead stores gathering donations for events or cookies or gift certificates or partners in events or, or, or........you never know what to expect Mike to show up at next or what he will look like. Mike's label is with Parks development and use operations and his creative solutions never let up. Mike is another critical hub for functional partnerships. He makes us laugh a lot too.

It's important to realize that this committee has been working with zero budget from the township. The programs have been self funded by the committee through donations from businesses and people in the community and our main source of marketing is Becky's genius website.  The programs have all been supported by the community through the hard work and organizational skills of the committee members. This is not your normal sit around and talk committee. This group does it all. The amazing thing is that it's fun. I would encourage anyone in the community to contact the committee and come on out and play with us. Create your own programs for the parks and we'll make them possible. There is no limit to what we can do as long as it is in the spirit of the Plumstead community. We meet on the 4th Tuesday of most months at 7:30 PM in the township building. November and December we move the meetings because of the holidays.

We hope to meet you, now that you know us.

Sincerely and with gratitude,

Richard H. McNutt
