NPFBA Long Term Care Ad

Pre-Existing Condition

Applies to:

Long Term Disability and Long Term Care

Explanation:
Pre-Existing Condition refers to any injury, sickness, or pregnancy that first began prior to benefit coverage. A condition is generally considered to be pre-existing if a person has sought medical advice or treatment for a condition, a condition was detected during an exam, or symptoms existed which would reasonably cause a person to seek medical advice. Also, any injury or sickness resulting from treatment of a Pre-Existing Condition is considered to be a Pre-Existing Condition. Benefit plans address Pre-Existing Conditions in different ways. For example, Pre-Existing Conditions may be eligible for coverage after 24 or 48 months of participation in the CLEA Group Plan A if Participant enrolled properly. Similarly, NPFBA may attach a rider specifying when a condition maybe covered. For more information please check your Plan Documents.

Meet a Firefighter Who Beat the Odds...
                                                          An Inspiration to All

Sean SimonsonOn April 20, 2006, Sean Simonson, a City of Milpitas firefighter, flew over the handlebars of his mountain bike and landed on his head. Sean's accident injured his spinal cord and changed his life forever when he became a quadriplegic (someone with limited or no movement in their arms and legs). Initially, doctors believed that Sean would not regain any of his lost movement, which meant he would only be capable of moving his left arm leaving Sean bed ridden for the rest of his life. Sean proved the doctors wrong and immediately began planning his return to the fire department and competitive sports.

Study Suggests Reliance on Web Sites May Signal a Shift Away From Memorization

July 14, 2011 -- Google, Facebook, Internet Movie Database, and many other sources of information on the Internet are changing the way in which we remember.

Whether it's an actor's name that is on the tip of your tongue, or even a loved one's birthday, all you have to do is type in some key words and you often can have your answer.

As a result of this instant access, growing numbers of us may actually be outsourcing our memories. It's called the "Google effect," and it is documented online in the journal Science.
