NPFBA Long Term Care Ad

Activities of Daily Living   (ADL)

Explanation: Activities of Daily Living (ADL) is a term used in both long term disability and long term care coverage. The activities include bathing, dressing, toileting, transferring, ambulating, continence and eating. A person's ability to perform these activities general determines the degree of his/her disability and eligibility for benefits. For example, the NPFBA Long Term Care Plan requires a person to be unable to perform a minimum of 2 ADLs including transferring for eligibility for Home Care. Protect Yourself from MRSA

MRSA

The staph bacterium is a wily bacterium that easily adapts creating super bugs such as Methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus or MRSA that are resistant to multiple antibiotics. In June a new strain of MRSA was discovered in the United Kingdoms and researchers are currently in the process of determining whether the new strain has reached the U.S. The CDC estimates that staph colonizes the nose of 25% to 30% of people but that MRSA colonizes less than 2% of people, which is good news. However, because MRSA tends to be most common in hospitals, correctional facilities and areas or groups with poor hygiene and crowded living conditions it's important for Peace Officers to know how to recognize and prevent MRSA infections. Additionally, under California Labor Code 3212.8 MRSA infections are presumed to arise out of and in the course of employment.
