Appreciation Breakfast and 9/11 Remembrance Review
On Friday Morning, September 10th, the Everett Chamber of Commerce held its Annual Appreciation
Breakfast and 9/11 Remembrance at the Connolly Center.
A crowd of over 150 people attended to pay homage George Desiderio and Ray
Lepore, both WWII Veterans and to remember James and Mary Trentini who
tragically lost their lives in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Chamber
President, David O'Neil introduced the veterans and Peter Cocciardi spoke on behalf
of the Trentini's. In total, 16 recipients have now received memorial scholarships in the names of James and
Mary Trentini. Daniel S. Concannon and Shannon Murphy were this year's
recipients. Shannon Murphy was in attendance with her mother. Daniel S. Concannon was unable to attend
because he had already started college in another state.
George Desiderio and Ray Lepore spoke about their military service and
then received several citations from Mayor Carlo DeMaria, Jr., State Senator Sal DiDomenico and State
Representative Stephen "Stat" Smith.
Peter Cocciardi then spoke about his friendship with James and Mary Trentini
and the unfortunate events that played out on September 11th, 2001. He also informed the crowd of the new plans
to rebuild the area of Manhatten now known as 'Ground Zero'.
The Island
End Industrial
Park generously sponsored the event and everyone in
attendance enjoyed a sumptuous breakfast prepared by the Square Deli. Donations will be accepted for the Trentini Scholarship at the Everett Chamber of Commerce, 467 Broadway, Everett, MA
02149, telephone # 617.387.9100.
Below is a brief synopsis of

he was sent to France

Soon after, George re-enlisted in the army of occupation Germany. Upon the end of his service in Germany, he returned to the U.S. George received his 2nd

Saturday,
September 18th,"CityFest" Review
The Annual 'CityFest' was once again a huge success with over 1,500 people in attendance. Many local area businesses participated in the event. Various Restaurants served a large variety of items. The Everett Cooperative Bank served so much slush (4 containers) that they had to keep their doors opened after closing hours! There were clowns, pony rides and even a Moon Bounce for the kiddies! The City of Everett provided a huge stage on which musical acts entertained the huge crowd. Devri played their selections of Irish classics, Mr. Something Something, a Grammy nominated Canadian group played their original set to much appreciation. Then, 'Everett's Own' Jim Bogus Crew blew the crowd away with a seventies set consisting of Chicago, Earth, Wind & Fire, etc. hits! Bando Belo rounded out the day with a set of Brazilian Music and wowed the audience as they did last year! The Italian Serenaders and the Mariachi Band strolled through the crowd doin' their thing and Mrs. "Zumba" herself, Jill Martin, had everyone dancin' and a rockin' with her Zumba favorites and the Wah Lum Academy had it's Dancing Lions roaming through the streets. All in all, the businesses and the people in attendance had a GREAT TIME! The weather played nice and held to a balmy 70 degrees and the sun, she was a shinin'. The Everett Chamber of Commerce, Mayor Carlo DeMaria, Jr. and the City of Everett would like to thank all of the businesses, individual and otherwise, that participated in the event and we look forward to working with all of you again to make sure that next year is even a greater success than this year.

BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT

The D'Angelo family
opened their first Dunkin' Donuts in 1987 on the Revere Beach Parkway. They expanded their business and now own and
operate 3 Dunkin's. Two on the parkway
and their flagship store which is located at 524 Broadway, "On the Hill". Pat and Gianna employ 92 people in all
three stores and have come a long way since 1987. Here's some quick statistics. Their biggest selling donut is the famous "Honey
Dipped". They sell approximately 1,275 pounds of coffee every week. Did you know that
coffee is the second most popular drink in the world after water?
Since 1987, Dunkin' Donuts has added an
incredible amount of products to their food and beverage menu including: many
different types of flavored coffees, assorted breakfast and lunch sandwiches
and now even hash browns and hot apple cider.
The Dunkin' Donuts legacy was started in Quincy, MA
in 1950. They franchise 6400 stores in the
U.S.
and 2700 stores abroad. That's quite an
impressive number of locations for a business that started serving only coffee
and donuts. Dunkin' Donuts is the world's largest coffee and baked goods chain, serving more than 3,000,000 (that's 3 Million) customers per day. Dunkin' Donuts sells 52 varieties of donuts and more than a dozen coffee beverages as well as an array of bagels, breakfast sandwiches and other baked goods.
In 2009 the Dunkin' "On the Hill" went
through a complete renovation to accommodate more seating and customers. Every five years the Dunkin' Brands require
that each location undergoes a face lift and every ten years a complete
renovation is required.
Pat
and Gianna still reside in Everett and give generously
to various charities in and around the City of Everett.
Gianna is secretary of the Everett
Kiwanis Club and Pat is a member of the Orsogna Club of Everett. Pat and Gianna are going to be be recognized at this year's Everett Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner for their continuing investment in the Everett Community on October 12th, at Anthony's in Malden. They are very generous to the Chamber of Commerce providing fresh donuts for us to serve our clients every day! The next time you're in Dunkin's, tell them Bobby from the Chamber sent you... You can also visit them on the web @ DunkinDonuts.com.
