After a five day road trip south we finally made it to Green Valley, Az. Feels so good to unpack and settle into our new home that will be our digs for the next four months. Taking route 89 stretches your mind to fill the vast expanse of the landscape and you appreciate emptiness.
First off thanks for the response and the donations for the newsletter both financial and with doing the trial for constant contact. I will put that link here again for any who want to take that free peek. It really is free to try for 60 days and doing so gets the newsletter free for me to use until I actually find 5 who want to take it for real. This just buys me some time to dig those folks up. So here is the link again. Constant Contact Link
I wanted to post a video that was sent to me by Elsie Campbell who tried the Animoto video link I sent out in a previous newsletter . Here is the link..it really turned out so creative.. a big hand to Elsie. If you are in her neck of the woods check out her class schedule on her web site.
While I was looking at my Fine Art America site I began to look at different artists. I did this while I was home and forgot to write down the artists name to give them credit for such interesting work, but I thought I would see what could be done with the image in wax. If someone was a watercolor artist and created a style like this it would lend itself so well to transfer to wax. So here is one of the images. Now I will see what I can do with it. Ok here is the finished waxed version. With careful blending you can match almost every color.
I have found some videos that are worth sharing. Here is one from Thea in Canada that is interesting on painting candles, a nice Christmas theme.
Encaustic: Painting candles
Michael Bossom has some nice videos on how to use rubber stamps in the hot wax that could also be great a method for Christmas Ideas. Consider Christmas trees with a watercolor wash over the image... Just remember to use a rubber stamp with open areas not fine areas that will fill with wax.
Encaustic + stamps
I am not sure if I have ever shown this one of Thea's done on black paper, but it is so interesting thought I better make sure you have seen it.
Encaustic: painting magnolias
Some A 6 cards If you apply one ply of Kleenex over some wax you get an interesting texture. Being careful you can paint on top of the Kleenex layer.
Embossed, waxed, tissued
Rubber Stamps
That should do it for this month.... Fun-easy-art.com just reached 3850 cities around the world. I do have several classes set up here in Green Valley. At a AZ Scrapbooking store Dec 10th and also with the GVR facilities on Feb 18th. I did a talk in Tucson and a class may form in January there as well.
Arizona sun is wonderful....
