Dear Encaustic Painter,

I thought a look at what watercolor paper does with wax might be useful. Here is a collection of different methods I will point out as we go along.
This one is just wax on watercolor paper.

          watercolor

This is with a sky done with hot air and the mountains done with the Kleenex pad painting method.

          wc

Same idea but sky hot air and mountains done with iron but lightly and then painted over with mica watercolor paints on the mountains.

Next we have the watercolor paper painted with gold gesso and then waxed.

         wc

Next a combination of different effects. On the right a stencil pattern done with mat media and then waxed over after it dried showing the pattern. Then some rubber stamps and next some Kleenex and metallic wax with a mono print in the left side.

           wc

Next we have a photo that I had done on gloss stock with laser printer and then it was waxed with clear and then two layers of silk paper were fused into the wax. Next I did different areas with Kleenex at the bottom then Angelina up in the middle and some spots of hot metallic pen work to show different effects you can use.  On the right is a collage.

Here is an embossed card that has been waxed but with a layer of one ply of Kleenex added to give it a soft texture. I like the effect on embossed stock.

Neat trick to create raised or 3D images on the surface by laying one ply of Kleenex on the picture and then I painted the tree on the Kleenex and the hot wax went through to the card surface. After the tree was done I wiped off the excess Kleenex leaving just the tree. I have used this method to create a cloth effect on clothing.

Image transfers and wax are a fun combination as well.

Watercolor paper and a leaf fixed into the wax.

Here is a photo I took at the zoo of a girl with her face painted. I cropped the background out with the computer and then waxed everything with clear wax first and then filled in with colored wax everywhere except her face and neck. When I use photos this way I first placed the printer page from my Inkjet into a wax bath with the back side down into clear wax and then work the front side with the stylus and colored wax.

Another photo overlay project done the same way all done with the stylus pen point. A bit time consuming but worth the trouble.

I have been wanting to find new ways to work with my wax images and from the items below you can see I am getting into many new areas. What do you think? Interesting?

I will be expanding this area and updating it as well.

Next I am going into fabrics and here is one bolt of fabric that I am working on from an image I gave you last month using the crystals.  I am getting quite excited about the possibilities.

Then there is the lampshade project.... you will just have to stay tuned!

That is it for now....  Wax on.

PS.. I just located a large hot tray that can be used for painting on an A2 size large sheet. Hard to find one this large; 20 x 24 inches. I will let you know how I like it when it arrives in case you want one.
