Barter Group Trades on Social Media To Expand
The Arizona Republic (Jan. 5, 2011)
Social media and a poor economy have given a boost to a Scottsdale-based company that promotes bartering.
The Barter Group, formed in 1978, has experienced its share of economic ups and downs over the years, but their trade organization is using modern technology to drum up business.
This year, the business-to-business barter organization began using social media, and has signed more than 100 new businesses. It was the most new members for TBG in a year's time period.
Owner Lori Baker said that since July, 56 new members signed up entirely because of social media, mainly Twitter. The group has about 450 businesses in its membership.
"I have no doubt that our boost in membership is due to the combination of the current recession and The Barter Group's ability to identify and sign up businesses through social media," Baker said.
