Greetings!

September is here, which means that school schedules are beginning and fall is in the air! Summer is coming to a close and a new season is beginning. This year has really flown by! It's hard to believe we've already reached the ninth month of 2011. This month we reflect upon the tenth anniversary of 9/11 and the impact it has made in our everyday lives. Say a prayer for those still suffering from the immense loss that this event created, and pray for peace in the future of the U.S. and the world.

This month's Insurance Update is focusing on back pain! Since this is the time of year to prepare for winter around the home and at work and there may be chores that could strain your back, we've provided information to assist you in preventing these problems. MyHealthMedia at Highmark's website provides health coaching to help you understand the dynamics of back pain and how your overall health affects your back. Make sure to log on to www.highmarkbcbs.com and take advantage of the health coaching session available there, which will provide you with an individualized prevention and management plan for back pain. Read below for details.

Our annual open enrollment is fast approaching. Our employer group medical plans that renew in January will be getting renewal information personalized for their groups with the appropriate open enrollment dates.

Open enrollment for our ancillary plans for eligible employees begins Oct. 1 as well. We have negotiated an open enrollment for our life and disability plans, so if you are eligible and you've never applied for these plans, you have an opportunity to apply without providing proof of insurability (unless you request more than the guaranteed issue amount for supplemental and dependent life insurance). Below you can find several pieces of information about life and disability insurance for your review and reference.

Enrollment packages will be sent out to all eligible members for these plans at the beginning of October. If your group's renewal is not Jan. 1, we will be contacting you with your specific renewal information at the appropriate time.

May your September be full of love, laughter, and richly rewarding days!
