Hello Everyone,

Happy 4th of July!

I hope you have a safe and relaxing holiday.  (I know I could use the rest)  We have been busy at Mo's moving things around...again.  If you haven't been by in the last few months you should come see all of the new things we have.  Our local artists have been busy too and we would love to show you their latest creations.  We also have a large collection of art on display from Artaissance

New from artist Tyler Pierce

Out Gassing

There are so many potential jokes with this word, and we have made them all.  Mo's favorite is "art farts".  It's hard to admit we're related when he throws out phrases like that to customers.  Thankfully they always find it funny.

All joking aside, out gassing is real and it can significantly distort how you see your art.  Out gassing leaves a foggy film on the inside of the glass. It is a chemical reaction between the atmosphere and the inks and pigments used in art and is generally noticed in older framed pieces.  This fog dulls colors and details.  To fix the effects of out gassing, the piece needs to be taken apart completely and the glass cleaned or replaced.

artesian shadows This photo is related to the word of the day.  I want to point out that what you see is not a picture.  This is the effect of out gassing, what we call a "ghost image", on the glass.  We kept this piece of glass as an example because you can see how the fog builds up over time.  Imagine how faded the picture must have looked underneath that.

Bringing new life to your art, especially the older framed pieces, can be as simple as a new piece of glass.  If your artwork looks dull and dirty no matter how many times you clean it, it could be due to out gassing.  We can help.  We can do a simple face lift for your art by opening it up, cleaning it out, and putting fresh backing and new hardware on.  We are also offering a labor discount with every conservation glass upgrade.  If your art was framed over five years ago you probably do not have UV filtering glass.  If you are not sure what kind of glass you have we can tell if you bring it in. Summer is a great time to take care of those odd projects.  Don't forget about your artwork.
Sincerely,
