December 5, 2011

Hello Wamogo Families and Friends,

We had the pleasure of seeing Cary Trivanovich's performance, "Character Over Bullying," on Friday, December 2, 2011. The students and staff found him to be entertaining and he had a great message for us all.  Many students commented that they thought his show was outstanding. Mr. Trivanovich gave a mesmerizing pantomime.

Please enjoy this week's e-blast and don't forget to check out the event calendar on our website at www.rsd6.org.

Wishing you all the best,

Bill Egan

The Immigrant Experience

Wamogo juniors have been working on recreating the immigrant experience.  Each junior chose an immigrant from the ellisisland.org website and, using the ship's manifest, reconstructed the journey this immigrant experienced.  They created a Google map that followed their chosen immigrant from their home country to the United States.  Each point on their map contained a picture or video and a creative diary or letter from the immigrant's perspective.  Each entry focused on one of the four essential questions for the unit:  Why would people leave their homeland and start a new life in a foreign country?: What obstacles/hardships do people face on their journey to become part of the American melting pot?; For most immigrants, how did the "myth" of America match the reality of American life?; What factors contribute to successful relocation of new immigrants?
