After reading the information below follow the link for the competition schedule. Printed copies will be available at the studio on Monday.

Monticello is a 45 minute drive from the studio (41 miles). Many of our families choose to stay at a hotel near or in Monticello for all or part of that weekend. If you are interested in staying at a hotel, we recommend the AmericInn in Rogers (www.americinnrogers.com). Fliers for this hotel are available on the information wall in the studio lobby and entitle you to a 15% discount on your stay during this weekend.

Besides this hotel there are many wonderful places to stay close to Monticello High School. Keep in mind that this is a very big competition and that most hotels close to the High School will sell out for the weekend.

  • April 29-May1 at Monticello High School. ALL company dancers compete in this competition.
  • Dancers must be ready to dance (including being warmed up and stretched) 1.5 hours before their scheduled dance time. If you need help with hair or make up, please come early.
  • If your dancer has a long break between dances, she/he is free to leave as long as she/he has checked in with Carol or Karla and is back at the venue, fully prepared to dance 1.5 hours prior to her/his next performance time.
  • Dressing areas are assigned for this competition. Stop at the registration/check-in table (look for trophy and/or clothing sales) and ask for the location of our studio's dressing area . It may take you some time to find us, so make sure to get to the venue early.
  • Dancers are responsible to help with their own props. Make sure that your dancer has taken care of her props, packed and organized her costumes and checked in with Carol or Karla before leaving the dressing area once her dances are complete.
  • Dance competitions are a full weekend commitment. Dancers must stay for awards as detailed in the schedule.
Costumes
  • All costume pieces must be clearly labeled.
  • Costumes, accessories and supplies must be well organized before each competition.
  • Costumes must be kept covered and clean. Once you are finished in a costume, please pack it immediately to avoid damage or loss.
  • You are responsible for all undergarments (available at Step N Stretch and discountdance.com). These must be fully covered by the costume or have clear straps. Underwear is generally not worn with dance costumes. If it is absolutely necessary, make sure that it does not show and that underwear lines are not visible.
  • If a costume piece is lost or destroyed by one dancer, that piece cannot be worn again by any team members. Please be careful with your costumes and have a clear plan for repacking after each use.

Thank you to everyone who has helped with costume alterations and enhancements!
Attendance
We are now officially in our competition season. In order for our dancers to be fully prepared for competitions and performance they must be present in class. Your dancer's presence in class greatly affects the success of the class as a whole.

Dancers may lose the privilege to perform if they miss class in the week prior to a competition or performance.

We know that this is the season for dance team auditions, confirmation, first communion, choir concerts, etc. Remember to be clear about your dance schedule/commitments with the leaders of these events. It is your responsibility to work out your schedules for these events and to be present at all DanceXchange classes and events (unless you worked something out with us prior to the Dec. 1 conflict deadline). It is too late in our season to rework formations and add in alternates. It is imperative for all dancers to participate in classes and performances in order to insure the greatest success for all of our dancers.

Company dancers are committed to the entire weekend for all scheduled competitions and performances. Please do not schedule any additional commitments for your dancer until you are certain of the exact schedule. Schedules will be emailed and available in the lobby one week prior to each competition. Recital and rehearsal schedules are available approximately one month prior to the event.

If a conflict arises for your dancer at this point in the season it is expected that she/he attend the DanceXchange class, rehearsal, event, competition and/or performance to which your dancer and family has committed. Your dancer has committed to all classes, rehearsals, events, competitions and performances for this season through Midwest Starz Nationals, June 16-19, 2011. Please remember this as you make non-DanceXchange plans for the spring.

Please check the company calendar today and sync it with your family calendar.
