C Company Competition Change

We just received word this afternoon that the VIP Competition did not have enough entries to hold their March 4-6 Minneapolis competition. We had originally scheduled the weekend of April 15-17 as a back up weekend in case this were to happen. However, we have a number of dancers with conflicts on that weekend so we are unable to use our back up competition date. All C Company families will receive a full refund for your competition fees for the VIP competition as soon as possible.

There is NO competition March 4-6 (VIP)

There is NO competition April 15-17 (back up competition weekend)

Attendance
We are now officially in our competition season. In order for our dancers to be fully prepared for competitions and performances they must be present in class. Your dancer's presence in class greatly affects the success of the class as a whole.

Dancers may lose the priviledge to perform if they miss class in the week prior to a competition or performance.

We know that this is the season for dance team auditions, confimation, first communion, choir concerts, etc. Remember to be clear about your dance schedule/commitments with the leaders of these events. It is your responsibility to work out your schedules for these events and to be present at all DanceXchange classes and events (unless you worked something out with us prior to the Dec. 1 conflict deadline). It is too late in our season to rework formations and add in alternates. It is imperitaive for all dancers to participate in classes and performances in order to insure the greatest success for all of our dancers.

Company dancers are committed to the entire weekend for all scheduled competitions and performances. Please do not schedule any additional commitments for your dancer until you are certain of the exact schedule. Schedules will be emailed and available in the lobby one week prior to each competition. Recital and rehearsal schedules are available approximately one month prior to the event.

If a conflict arises for your dancer at this point in the season it is expected that she/he attend the DanceXchange class, rehearsal, event, competition and/or performance to which your dancer and family has committed. Your dancer has committed to all classes, rehearsals, events, competitions and performances for this season through the Midwest Starz Nationals, June 16-19, 2011. Please remember this as you make non-DanceXchange plans for the spring.

Please check the company calendar today and sync it with your family calendar.

Costumes
Dancers will continue to bring costumes home once they are complete. We will continue to make alterations and enhancements to costumes as needed. If your dancer has not received her/his costume by the end of class on Thursday, we will have it for you on picture day. There are often additional alterations that we deem necessary once we use the costumes at dress rehearsal. We may ask your dancer to leave her/his costume with us that day in order to best prepare costumes for competition.

A couple of reminders:

  • All costume pieces must be clearly labeled.
  • Costumes, accessories and supplies must be well organized before each competition.
  • Costumes must be kept covered and clean.
  • You are responsible for all undergarments (available at Step N Stretch and discountdance.com). These must be fully covered by the costume or have clear straps. Underwear is generally not worn with dance costumes. If it is absolutely necessary, make sure that it does not show and that underwear lines are not visible.
  • If a costume piece is lost or destroyed by one dancer, that piece cannot be worn again by any team members. Please be careful with your costumes and have a clear plan for repacking after each use.

Thank you to everyone who has helped with costume alterations and enhancements.

Wig Heads
If your dancer has a wig for any of her dances she will need a Styrofoam wig head to keep her wig in proper condition between performances. We have purchased wig heads for all dancers requiring them. You can either purchase or rent your dancers wig head for $5. If you plan on returning your wig head after nationals, please do not write your name on your wig head or decorate it.

Bring $5 cash to the front desk anytime this week to pay for and pick up your wig head. Xcitement Jazz wig heads will be available next week. We will have Xcitement Jazz wigs here for the girls on Saturday.

Required Competition Supplies

All dancers must have these supplies by Picture/Dress Rehearsal Day on Feb. 26. If you need replacements for your Yofi supplies, please visit Yofi's website. www.yoficosmetics.com

All dancers should have a well-marked bag or box in which to keep make-up and hair accessories. Put your name on all items.

The following is a list of required make-up and hair supplies for all female competition dancers. These items are your responsibility to pick up this week and are generally available at Target, Walgreen's, CVS, etc. Sally Beauty Supply carries high quality hair supplies, as well.

___Eyeliner: Black liquid

___Mascara: Black

___Eye lash glue

___Foundation and Powder to match skin tone

___Thick black or brown hair binders (at least 2 must be worn for all performances)

___Bobby pins to match hair color

___Hair nets and hair pins (different from bobby pins) if any of your dances require a bun. (Sally Beauty Supply has the best selection of hair products)

___Safety pins

___Hair spray

___Nail polish remover (nail polish is not allowed for performances on fingers and toes)

Reminders...
  • All dancers will be allowed one excused absence per class during Spring Break time. Dancers will begin to work on the recital finale during Spring Break weeks and will have a modified schedule (TBA).
  • Please inform us at least one week in advance if your dancer will be absent for any reason. Extra absence forms are available at the front desk. Dancers must be present in class the week prior to a performance or competition in order to participate.
  • Sick dancers should not come to the studio unless you are certain that they are not contagious. Absences due to sickness are not counted.
