Wisconsin Shooter earns a spot on the US Olympic Rifle Team
 Ammoland.com

Staff Sgt. Michael McPhailStaff Sergeant Michael McPhail (USAMU/Darlington, Wis.) booked his ticket as the Olympic nominee in Men's 50-meter after what USA Shooting National Rifle Coach Major Dave Johnson described as one of the more thrilling Prone matches in years. All McPhail had to do to earn his distinction was take down the event's two-time Olympic medalist Matt Emmons (Browns Mills, N.J.). After an opening day 593 and a missed final, Emmons came back strong to lose just two points over his next 120 shots including a perfect 600 in today's match. McPhail's consistency over the three-day course of fire would prove to be enough in the end.

McPhail will be the USA's second representative in Men's Rifle Prone event in London joining USAMU teammate Sergeant First Class Eric Uptagrafft (Phenix City, Ala.). Uptagrafft was nominated to the team in July 2011 after successful World Cup and World Championship and was to avoid the mental drain of competing for the spot on the team via the Trials. With McPhail's nomination, the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU) has formed quite the Olympic contingent with six soldier-athletes set to participate in London.

Armed Forces Camp 2012

Busy is not the word. Congratulations to Scott Walker, all the recall candidates, and to all that got out and voted to keep our constitutional rights. As you know, Wisconsin FORCE invested heavily in supporting those that support you.

As you are receiving this, I am in Wausau at the last of the six Armed Forces Camps held across the State this past week. Again, we had a very successful week with approximately 500 signed Marine recruits participating. The program introduces those that have committed to protect us to the AR15. This month's picture was taken at the Beloit Rifle Club on the first day of the Armed Forces Camp. It is a picture of part of the firing line with the recruits, volunteers, and Marines being supervised by NRA Senior Field Representative Scott Taetsch.

Last week I was working with instructors for two Y summer camps that serve Milwaukee, Camp Minikani, and Camp Matawa. Funding for implementing a shooting program at Matawa, and upgrading the program at Minikani, was partially funded by the Friends of the NRA. It is great to see the "Y" get back into promoting safe shooting.

See you on the Range - Jeff

Long Range Regional Match at Winnequah Gun Club by Karin Liebetrau

Fifty seven competitors attended the Long Range Regional match on May 5-6, 2012.  Not a bad turnout for this match considering the temps were cool and the usual Wind God kept everyone on their toes.  Ryan Pierce from Iowa set a new F Class Open & Civilian record with a score of 450.24.

NRA Awards by Karin Liebetrau

The NRA is now sending Individual Class Medals in addition to the Gold, Silver and Bronze National medallions at Regionals.  They are trying to get more people into High Power Rifle shooting whether it is across the course or long range.  No matter how many competitors are in a class, a class medal will be given to the high score in each classification.  Camp Perry Credit Certificates are also provided to NRA for the highest score in each class provided there are 10 people in that class.  The certificates are 50% off the entry fees for the National High Power Rifle or Long Range Rifle Championship matches.  They are good for two years.  This is a good way to reduce your entry fees at Camp Perry.
