Wisconsin Sweeps NRA Awards for 2011 By Scott Taetsch
We all know that 2011 will be remembered as the year Wisconsin dominated national news. But many may not be aware that the "movers and shakers" of our great state also dominated many prestigious NRA National Awards for 2011. Beginning last fall with our state association's (Wisconsin FORCE) president, Jeff Nass, being presented with the NRA/ILA Volunteer of the Year, we then continued with Wisconsin Firearm Owners, Ranges, Clubs, and Educators, Inc. (Wisconsin FORCE) being awarded the NRA's 2011 State Association Of The Year Award!
Within a few days of this news, I was informed that Brian Mrnak, of the Chequamegon Bay Area team in Ashland, WI, who recently won the 2011 Friends of NRA Volunteer of The Year award for Wisconsin, also went on to win the award for all 11 states of the NRA's Central Region Division! He will now be flown to the NRA's 2012 Annual Convention in Saint Louis, MO, April 13,14,15, 2012, to compete with the four other regions for Friends of NRA National Volunteer of the Year!
The seeds of the great things that Wisconsin FORCE, Jeff Nass, Brian Mrnak and many others have accomplished in 2011 were planted years ago. Many people, both inside and outside of the Association and the Friends of NRA program have helped plant those seeds. The fruits of all that labored came together in 2011.
Some of the many accomplishments were the Armed Forces Camp (Poolee Program) approved to go national, Friends of NRA events breaking records (again!). Holding the Nations only State Convention for the fifth year. Continuance of our web site and award winning newsletters such as the Hunter Marksman and The Trigger, Use of the "Quick Shot." E blast technically advising ranges. Promotion of NRA membership, Business Alliances, and Club Affiliations. FORCE affiliated Member Clubs alone grew by a whopping 20%. The promotion of our alliance with other like minded associations throughout the state greatly expanded our political involvement, including the NRA's ILA Division. These improvements helped prevent a huge number of anti-gun legislative bills, not to mention helping a lot of pro-gun politicians get elected.
With the change in the Capitol, we didn't stop to rest, immediately working to help restore many of the rights that had been lost. These accomplishment include, but are not limited to, the Personal Protection Act (Concealed Carry) and the common sense Castle Doctrine. Our ILA representative, Brent Gardner, is the best in the country, working closely with Wisconsin FORCE. We are committed to remain at the forefront of the defense of our rights and in the development of many more great programs!
As a proud NRA Chartered Association, Wisconsin FORCE is looking forward to another great year in 2012. |
