From the desk of the Pres... by Jeff Nass

Well, its been more than a month and like other states Wisconsin is a safer place with law abiding citizens exercising their constitutional rights. This month's picture is of professional shooter Patrick Flanigan (right) myself and David Maglio (left). I instructed Patrick in shooting the Massad Ayoob Group, MAG 20 Range course of fire. Patrick then competed against Wisconsin's own David Maglio, Head Instructor for MAG in the State. Look for this to air on the cable shooting show "Shell Shocked" after the first of the year. Jenna and I had another good Thanksgiving, and my time in the woods was enjoyable and although I had several glimpses of deer, I saw nothing to take a shot at. The new gun case bill made life easier and safer this year and as people are more prepared, I look for this to improve by next year's hunt. Because of education and blaze orange, Wisconsin had another very safe year.

On the Range by Jeff Nass
Is your club taking advantage of the influx of new shooters with the passage of CCW? By offering good quality NRA classes, the potential new member can qualify for their permit, learning the proper way to safely handle firearms and become good members of your club. Working with a quality instructor, you can pre-qualify potential members who may have never been exposed to what most of us have had as a passion. You can also negotiate with the course's instructor(s) into teaching probationary members your club's initiation course as an addition to their course, for interested students.

1. Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction. 2. Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot. 3. Always keep the gun unloaded until ready to use. 4. Always treat a firearm as if it were loaded. |

Legislative by Jeff Nass 2011 has been a very good year in Madison for the rights of Wisconsinites. The NRA, working with Wisconsin FORCE and our friends in the Hunters Rights Coalition, helped pass many good bills, including the recently signed "Castle Doctrine." Look for improvements on the exercising of our Constitutional Rights in 2012.

Self Defense is a Right not a Privilege by Jeff Nass
On many official documents and in the attitudes of many of the politicians in Madison, self defense is a privilege!! What?? The wording is often in official documents stating the "privilege of self defense." Who do they think gives us this "privilege?" Is it them? Not likely! Self defense is the right of every person. I take bullying personally and have worked most of my life to stop it. The RIGHT to chose to defend yourself and your family at the top of my list. Bullies also come in other forms. Restricting your rights or controlling you are also forms of bullying. With the passage of the Personal Protection bill (concealed carry) and now the Castle Doctrine, we are working to restore the rights of the citizens of Wisconsin. Whether bullying you physically, mentally, or taking your self defense rights away, it cannot be tolerated.

Carry by Jeff Nass
USAcarry.com has a great feature. You click on Wisconsin and it shows the states that recognize your permit. Then you click on additional states you have a permit for and it includes the additional states that are added. If you have other permits or are looking to carry in a state that does not recognize Wisconsin, you can see which one(s) will work best. They list the following states that should honor a Wisconsin permit: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, and Vermont. As always, it is your responsibility to verify that your permit is recognized and follow the laws of the state you are visiting.

The Parting Shot! by Paul Baumann, Editor
As 2011 draws to a close, we can look back and see that it has been a pretty good year for Wisconsin firearm owners. We still have a lot of work to do and maintaining the freedoms that we have won this year will take constant tending.
These days we are all busy and we all have our own opinion about how things should be done, but if we don't contribute our time and talents and agree on common issues, we will not succeed, or perhaps even survive. We can't depend on someone else to do what we must all do together.
Please have a Safe and Joyous Holiday Season and a healthy and prosperous New Year!
See you around the range...Paul
