Rolling out its biggest effort ever in New Hampshire, out-of-state gambling interests spent over a year preparing House Bill 593 for this day, twisting arms, doling out favors, wielding almost every procedural trick in the legislative arsenal.

The result? Where the media was expecting a close vote, HB-593 went down by a decisive 195-154. The final vote to kill the bill was 236 to 108.

Perhaps gambling interests will finally get the message that New Hampshire has no desire to imitate Massachusetts and cannibalize local jobs and business, increase addiction and crime, and corrupt state politics with slot casino monopolies.
